Not really sure if this has been posted before, if it has then please go ahead merge or lock this little thread of Dulpication. Anyways, I've stumbled across yet another EMPIRE Magazine list, this time detailing 500 Movies deemed the "greatest of all time" by the votes of the magazine's website readership (I Guess). This list actually introduced me to a movie that I never even heard of before, starring Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver [The Year of Living Dangerously]; Which is now on my Netflix Queue. The Feedback on the website was absolutely hillarious sometimes, especially how people went apeshit over TRANSFORMERS being deemed "great". I can't complain honestly, a lot of my favorites got included onto the list and despite how they ranked, that's all that matters to me. The only thing that bothers me is the top 10... I saw them coming from a mile away. Anyways, have a looksee at it. Hope you have fun. EMPIRE Magazine's 500 Greatest Movies of all Time
To even put these two movies within the same hemisphere is fu--ing blasphemy. 467th? Seriously? Not even funny. That's probably De Niro's most underrated role, and I'd even go so far as one of his top 3 performances. He was unforgettable in that movie.
I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this, but I did. Then I saw Ben Hur as #491. Then I closed the window.
I looked at the top 100 only. I'm upset that Back To The Future was higher than bloody Citizen Kane. Spoiler Godfather is a reasonable no.1 though.
How the fuck can Spoiler The Godfather be #1 and not Citizen Kane!? Citizen Kane is the greatest movie of all time, they can't just push it aside for a movie about mobsters! BLASPHEMY!
I agree with most of the list, but not with its No.1 decision. I think that "Raider of the lost ark" should have been No. 1.
As great as Citizen Kane was, I bet most people that tried watching it, fell asleep during some point of the movie.
I think Citizen Kane is overrated, as do I feel the Godfather. But you know what, that's my opinion. These lists bring traffic to their site at least but for the most parts its a couple of their staff's opinions and in general nobody willl agree with most of it.
That list is full of crap. (as in it is in improper order, the actual entries on the list are not) I mean, c'mon. Cloverfield and Ratatouille better than Iron Man? And how the hell is Hot fuzz better than MP&THG!?
That list was horrible how do you have scarface in the 300s come on people learn some movies and what is with over 50% of the films being foreign
Eh... a lot of my favorites are foreign movies. Plus the list is for movies of all time, not American movies.
Yes. However, Dark Knight at 16?!? I understand that with all those people and a balanced list, my personal favorites wouldn't all necesarilly be on the tops, but still, there were a lot of movies that aren't that great very high up on the list, I'm guessing because they were recent. Or something. Or lots of crazy people voted a lot.
Too true. I teach film studies and will argue its merits and trail-breaking achievements until I'm blue in the face. But if you ask me to sit down and watch it again, hells no.
