Ha, "conditioned". I'm sorry I want workers to have rights and to get paid? And this isn't a union for an auto company; it's for voice actors. I've seen how bad voice actors can be treated and taken advantage of.

And most important, just because a or some union(s) did a bad thing, doesn't mean I won't stop being in favor of them. If that was the case, I'd hate literally everything.

It's always nice to get new talent though that sucks that they're re-casting the old guard. I hope they don't have a Peter Cullen impersonator voicing Optimus.

The characters may be undergoing some sort of change to "freshen" the series. So the characters and their traits are still there but the look and sound of them is a little different.

Aww, I grew attached to the old cast :(
I hope the next one will follow into the footsteps of their predecessors and do a good job ;)

I get the feeling that people try too hard to sound just like Peter Cullen and it just isn't working (I think that Mr Cullen is simply that special ;) ). I'd really like if they did their own interpretation of Optimus Prime, because they can be great in their own merit. It worked in the past with Gary Chalk and David Kaye after all :)

Yeah, I feel like Hasbro should focus less on finding somebody that can impersonate Peter Cullen!Optimus, and focus more on finding somebody that can be their own Optimus.

I wonder if this is a sign Rescue Bots Academy won't be a TV show. Discovery Family is a dead channel walking and a lower budget could mean Youtube series.

discovery family is the rusted-out pick-up truck of kids networks. These Boulder shows are going straight to the internet. Either Youtube or Netflix.

ya know this kind of sucks they are changing voice cast and feels like they are doing it to save money which to me that is the worst reason to do so.

That said i wonder how many characters from season 1-4 will still be in the show.

You do know that Jon is a member of this forum right? He could see this. And the guy has been impersonating Optimus Prime on his YouTube channel for years, actually met Peter Cullen, and even his original voice Actor likes Jon's Optimus Prime voice. There are worse choices for Optimus Prime than a guy who was approved by Peter Cullen himself.

I've been subscribed to his YouTube channel even before he got really well known as the epic voice guy. I'm actually glad Hasbro finally hired him in some kind of official copacity considering Optimus Prime is the main reason he got famous in the first place. It's nice to see someone who's actually been a fan for such a long time have a chance to do his dream job, especially when he's actually good at it. I'd much rather listen to him than some of the more awful fan impersonations... including my own. Megatron I can do but Optimus Prime is just no.

What hasbro was then, compared to what Hasbro is now are two different things. That was 20+ years ago.

I think they understand it, but in this instance they are trying something new for other reasons we may not know as yet.

This show has been very profitable for them overall, and I don't think they are taking these options to curtail budget or screw employees over. While their goal is to keep the budget manageable, they do understand that making good material keeps the audience which pushes merchandise. They've been taking some mild risks instead of playing it safe overall. Lest we forget that it used to be that we'd only have one fiction per whatever era. And right now we have several all running at once, all catering to different areas of the market. With also 4 concurrently running toylines too. Which was almost 6 if Construct Bots and Kre-O were still going as strong as they were in the past. And that's not counting the mashers line either.

A little over 10 years ago, before the movies started, we had only one line running at a time. And we were lucky if we had a cartoon if not for those 4 consecutive anime series after Beast Machines.

Neat! I hope you're right in how good he is then. I want this series to be great!
Since he'd be non-union, that also helps explain the choices there too. Bringing the fans in to reach their dreams of voicing characters could be a big reason behind some of that choice.

It's been more or less a dead channel since it started. Hub brought it new life, and really that programming is the only thing keeping it afloat at all now.

Outside of the Hasbro shows, the only other show that's really held any ratings whatsoever there has been Meerkat Manor.

So professing that it's going to die, not exactly something new. It's been a channel sticking around with low ratings long before Hasbro had shows on it or looked into revitalizing it into the Hub, and now the switch to Discovery Family. It went from Discovery Kids to The Hub to Discovery Family. Not sure what it was before Discovery Kids. But the low ratings it has had in the past is what made it a lucrative choice for Hasbro to try to revitalize with their own material since it was a cheap channel to do so with.

Kind of wish they stuck with it. They had some great programming on their when it was the Hub. I guess the ad revenues weren't coming in strong enough from it overall, but the award winning shows and ability to use it for their own original programming was great. I still miss Renegades on there.

So I'd kind of assume they'd want to keep Rescue Bots going there. It's one of the bigger ratings draws they have besides MLP.

I would they rather had just made a new show for kids with the new voice cast. Or at least have an all new cast of Rescue Bots so not to change any characters actors.

Wasn't meant that way. Someone said he was a terrible Optimus. Clearly doesn't know what a terrible Optimus actually sounds like. Oh and almost forgot about that G1 Transformers game that came out a few years ago. Not Devastation, that one was actually good. The one before that, I think was only on PS2 and had some of the worst official voice acting I've ever heard. Like how did any of those guys ever get cast when non of them can act levels of terrible.

Jon Baily is actually good, not just in comparison to the worst of the worst but he truly deserves to be up there with Peter Cullen and Garry Chalk as one of the best Optimus voice actors... also whoever that guy is that did RID1 Optimus who's name I can never remember and people always forget about.

I'd actually prefer Jon over David Kaye. I don't have anything against David as an actor but I feel like they should of just called him Orion Pax. He never sounded like Optimus to me.

I don't think the acting in Combiner Wars was really a problem but the writing was. It was kind of this post war thing and they had a lot of story to cram into a short amount of time. If they were given more to work with I'm sure they could of done much better. As it was it felt like they had to act out this terribly written script with little to no direction about what their motivations were suppose to be.

It does kinda suck that they're recasting all the characters that we've already come to know over four seasons already. Depending on who they cast to replace them this could easily go south... especially if they're not even trying to voice match the original cast. If there's a drastic difference like if Chase suddenly stops talking in his usual monotoned voice kids are going to notice. Or another example if Quick shadow suddenly stops being British.

It most likely is because of cost as non-union Actors don't get paid as much... I know because I'm non-union. Though on the plus side it's also generally harder for us to find work because most places have to hire a sertain number of union actors. Though in some cases being union can make finding work harder because then you're not allowed to take non-union jobs. So you either get passed over for union actors or have to turn down non union gigs.

Anyway... if they're only hireing out of New York then Jon won't be playing Optimus as he lives in California. That also means even though it's non Union I still can't audition for it either. I'd love to at least audition even if I don't get cast for anything. It's Transformers, I want to be in something Transformers related. But I can't move to New York just for voice work which is really kinda dumb that they would limit it that much. I could understand it if they needed to be on set but when you can record audio in your own home why do you need to be in a specific city?

Usually that's exactly what shows who hire scabs do.

That doesn't resolve the core problem though.

Most of us are very aware that Jon Baily is a member here. He made a thread when CW came out where he.... I don't want to say acted like a crybaby but it certainly wasn't dignified. The dude doesn't seem to take criticism well. He just couldn't accept that it's fairly easy to tell his and Peter Cullen's voices apart. That's the thing, he may not be terrible, but he's still just an impersonator, when it comes to Optimus Prime and not a perfect one. Maybe he could do great if he tried his own thing, but when trying to be Peter Cullen, he doesn't quite hit the mark, no matter what Cullen himself might say. I don't know if anyone can quite hit that mark. Cullen's voice is insanely hard to imitate. Peter can't be Optimus in every cartoon but with people like Garry Chalk having such great success in doing their own versions of the character, I don't know why we need Peter Cullen impersonators.

And if he's willingly taking money to imitate the work of union actors he's a scab doing a disservice to the stars who's work he claims to admire.

It'd be like if I had gotten a high five by Robert Downey Jr. for my awesome Iron Man armor and then took a paycheck from Marvel to replace him because SAG went on strike.

Let's just get Dr Smoov to voice Optimus and be down with it :lol

Could you imagine him doing his version of a Rescue Bots episode??
