Has there ever been a line of Godzilla figures that are at least moderately poseable? (Not that into Godzilla merch but I think most are statues right?)
I think they have the most basic of articulation i.e. head, hands and tails can move? At least that's what my smaller scale figures have!
The 12" Bandai Creation figures have been out for a while, but not at retailers. In fact, I only just heard of them showing up at KB, and now they're at TRU also! What's the retail on these? Gotta get that Kiryu. Calling Godzilla toys "statues" is a bit much, but if you're talking about Marvel Legends-style poseability, that's never happened. Suit figures like the Microman Godzilla and Gamera figures and the occasional Medicom RAH (only Ultraman RAHs are current) are improvements, but not all that wonderful either. Your standard vinyl figure has the old-school swivel joints, usually at the shoulders, hips or legs, head or neck, and maybe the tail. Which ones specifically vary with the character. EDIT: According to vinylmaddness (sic), they definitely retail for $15, and seem to cost that much at KB as well. An excellent deal for large kaiju like these, although I'm not impressed at all with FW Godzilla.
There was one of each of these guys at TRU when I popped by today, passed on goji, grabbed Kiryu. $14.99, much better than the $35+shipping I would have had to pay to get him way back when (I don't remember how long I've been waiting for these... I forgot I was waiting somewhere along the way, so thanks tigermask44 for reminding me!). Posability... it's a Kaiju Vinyl, what do you expect? The arms rotate up and down, the neck turns, the waist turns a bit, and the tail rotates a little. That's actually awfully good for a Kaiju Vinyl! Overall, it's not up to the quality of, say, Bandai's die cast version that came out a while back, but for under $20 and at that size, it's everything one could hope for and more.
Hmmm, 12" Godzy for $15 sounds very tempting, but already picked up G2K at my local KBs. Will have to see him in person, but man he looks good in that photo shot, kylash327!
Gah, do want that Kiryu, but so much other stuff to buy. Also, shipping from the states on these would probably cost a bomb. Also, if you want posable kaiju, you can get some of the Mecha as figures with fairly good articulation. Mechagodzilla '74,'75,'02 and '03 are all available in the Soul of Chokogin line. As is the Final wars version of Gigan. The chokogins are excellent, I have MG '75 and '02 and they are both very posable. Bandai (I think it was them) made a DX Transforming Moguera, which IIRC was fairly articulated, or as much as Moguera was designed to articulate anyway. I still kick myself for passing on that when I saw it at a toyshow for £10
I WISH I could find the bandai GX Kiryu . I've been looking for a decently priced one for ages. That's why I was stoked to at least pick up a giant Vinyl one to terrorize all the little N scale figures littered around my office desk
I finally saw both of them in person at KB last night, but didn't have enough time to purchase Kiryu or at least take a closer look! I was also surprised to see the enormous amount of 6.5" figures KB had in stock. It literally dwarfed any other series of action figures on the shelf except for wrestling crap.
Just like this: http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemListingRpt.php?catID=1&subCatID=100&contentID=2190 http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemListingRpt.php?catID=1&subCatID=100&contentID=2191
Hmm. I picked up the Gigan earlier for a custom Shinki project, that's half done at this point. If the various Mecha-zilla's come with tons of guns, I might pick those up for similar kitbashing purposes. And if they're cheap, maybe I'll pick up another Gigan for display...because Gigan was always my favorite.
The Trendmasters power-up series Mechagodzilla comes with a good range of weapons, and both versions of Kiryu come with wrist and back weapons, other than that they dont really have many. Mechagodzillas tend to use mostly built-in weaponry.
