More like capaliizing. They are doing away with checks and money orders and putting a cap on shipping cost. Here is what part of the emai read:

A more consistent buyer experience to drive more sales
Sellers will enjoy the benefit of millions of confident buyers as we make the following changes:
Limits on shipping and handling charges in some categories
    Rewards for free shipping:
    - Free subtitle; more search exposure
    - Double PowerSeller discounts

Checks and money orders no longer allowed
New seller standards: minimum 4.3 on all DSRs

The Check/MO thing is L-A-M-E. Though I'm sure there's ways around it. Maybe.

As for the limit on shipping costs, that works for me. I'm sick of seeing auctions for an item that weighs less than 1lb, and it having a $20 shipping cost.

potentially you could have two paypal accounts and have one pay the other while you recieved the checks and MO's... but I'm not going to think harder about that

yeah,I agree about the way over charging. But for instance you get people that go out get there own boxes and have to write all the stuff on and packing material and the drive to the post office and charge like $8.00 shipping on a classic and get stomped about shipping prices. Those are the complaints I'm having.

I love it when people pay with PayPal. Because it's instant, no waiting or worrying. I do think, however, that taking away M.O.s is bad idea. I mean, it's what ran the show before PayPal became a reality.

Checks, on the other hand, I think it's a great idea they stopped the usage of those. Although, people could use an eCheck through PayPal, so everyone would be happy.

I dunno, this is getting ridiculous.

I can sort of see why they'd stop using checks and MO's - too easy to scam someone out of their cash that way (I've been able to cash MO's with NO form of ID before, and altering checks is as old as the day is long)... but at the same time, whatever happened to "Buyer Beware"? Isn't that why there was a feedback system in the first place?

Then again... seeing as how eBay and PayPal are bed buddies - yeah. I doubt it was as much about protection as I'd like to think.

The shipping thing is a plus though. "Handling" charges sometimes get outrageous... I KNOW that "Priority Mail" box from the PO didn't cost $10, buddy. And neither did the newspaper you crammed in there.

I used to mail money orders to the sellers on Ebay. I don't do it anymore,
because three times I received emails from the sellers saying they have
not received my money order in the mail. The first time, I mailed another
    money order to the seller.

The second time, I mailed another money order to the seller and then I
went to the USPS to see if they can locate the first one I mailed. Sure
enough, according to the USPS, the seller did received my first money
order and she ripped me off for the second one.

The third time, the seller sent me an email saying she has not receive the
money order. I responded back to her saying that I did mailed her the money
order and she needs to find it, because I will not mail her another one. Several
days later, she sent me another email saying that she has found it. I did'nt
believe that, because I believe she had it the whole time hoping she will
rip me off for me to mail her another one. Now I use Paypal.

Or the shipping cost is 5 times the cost of the actual item.

seems like there is decent news buzz about the changes eBay says is coming in September. Though none of the articles mention the shipping/handling changes.

Personally even if eBay is double-dipping with Paypal I'm all for removing checks and MOs. With the way feedback has changed buyers are gonna hit you with slow shipping because you have to wait for checks and MOs to clear. Which if you know the banking system could actually take between 14+ days. Other than eChecks in the paypal system it makes making sure the transaction is completed in a very timely manner.

I'll have to see how the s&h is redone. Not that I put anything extra in mine it may limit how packages are sent. Especially since I like to send everything with Priority to make sure the buy gets the item quickly.

Either way, eBay is going down the drain. I'm trying to move all my stuff over to eBid. Not as flashy as eBay but it still gets the job done. Well at least until there's more traffic going through them.

^==If you want to contact Ebay directly via Mail, this is one way to do it.
    ----
lynda_t@ebay.com <==Here is also an email to one of the people who work on ebay, say your opinions regarding the changes, but say so respectively.
    ----
You could also do an online petition and stuff on those lines.
    ----
Big Tip: Have a group of Ebay Sellers send their respective complaints via email/mail and perhaps they will get the idea that this is a bad idea and such.

    Hope that helps.

Thank god they're doing something about the shipping. I've ALWAYS been gouged on shipping stuff to Canada for whatever reason. Funny how when I go to ship stuff to the states, they tell me it's actually CHEAPER to send stuff to Washington state than it is to Ontario. It's just a border folks, it's not a line where things cost TRIPLE to cross it.

If eBay escapes any of that it'll be because they do allow several alternative online payment methods, which IIRC, are not a threat to Paypal. Of course one method they don't allow is Google checkout.

I was surprised to hear the end to checks & MO's since eBay.au attempted to do something like this earlier this year, but was stopped by the AU gov't. I guess we're plan B.

The cheque/MO thing is a good idea... however if PayPal is the only other option, then it's a BAD idea.

In this age of pre-paid credit cards and the like, cheques should go the way of the dodo because they suck.
