I have to disagree with that harsh statement.

I do feel that the toys could use some better paint apps but other than that they are pretty nice for being simplified.

That is why I have turned to the Takara-Tomy TF4 line. I just got my Takara Crosshair a few days ago and I can say he was worth the wait. He looks great and I just love his design. Im going to paint his goggle lenses the correct colors and his Corvette symbol too. Other than that he is just great. Im just hoping Takara gets Drift's color scheme right. Hasbro's is just too off.

Over all, the toys are pretty nice.

I'm currently a design intern at Hasbro and I think these guys are inspiring to me. I want to learn as much as I can while I'm here.

More of a marketing tool than informative, which is a shame.

Aspire to be more than the status quo. Hasbro needs it badly.

You can tell Bill Paukert is not a Transformers fan. I like the Drift and Hound videos because the designer is enthusiastic about it, but this other guy is just like "well, it can move here and here, and it does this thing, yay!"

I hope they keep making them, cause I don't want a few negative people ruin it for those of us who appreciate them trying to connect with the fan base.

I think you're reading too much into his delivery. Having talked to him a few times at great length, I can tell he appreciates Transformers and probably would consider himself a fan.

He is a really nice guy and gives me great hope that the new wave of designers are going to be just as engaging with the fans as the previous ones.

Let's not be the site that gets one of our own in trouble, ok? Working for Hasbro sounds totally awesome, and I'm sure you're champing at the bit, but it's still a job--don't get in any trouble for our sake!

That's awesome. I'm glad a nondisclosure agreement hasn't prevented you from being able to post.

I would settle for a design team that wants to create quality built Transformers with great transformation schemes and nice paint apps versus the new world of "I can change in X steps! I'm simplified! I'm hollow and have clip on wheels and joints. I'm smaller! We really are not trying to cover up drastic budget cuts!"

Notice no videos championing any of the super kiddy line toys?

The design team doesn't get to make the decisions you're complaining about, they are at the mercy of their budget and product directives, which are planned out by the execs and marketing guys. I don't think it's fair to complain about budget cuts to the design team, they don't make budgets.

As to your point about the flip changer designer videos, of course there aren't any, because these videos are another form of advertising. They're advertising their Generation toys to fans through these videos, I don't think most younger children would care too much about the design process. I'm not sure what you're trying to say there.

Well that's good to know, but he sounds like he's reading from a script. I like videos like these more when they explain why something was the way it was, or some goal they had with a specific thing, and not when they're just a review of the toy with some shots of the design sketches.

I'm actually liking these figures. While I am sad to see so much negativity over them, on the bright side, it will make it all the more easy to find the ones I want on store shelves.
