They've been up in 10 cities for 2-3 weeks? And just now they're teh bombz? THAT's what's friggin' funny. Well, that and the general overreaction. They shut down the UT campus once during the anthrax scare because someone found some white powder...at the base of a chalkboard. Come Ur. We must plan our next lengthy, multi-city hoax. Yeah, ya slow @#$%ers.
So what exactly is not funny about the Boston police department shutting down the city over the images of two inept alien cartoon characters?
That have been up for weeks and not just in Boston? Beats me. Even if I had been stuck in a traffic snarl in Austin had they freaked out there, I would have laughed my ass off at the reason once I'd figured it out.
The news anchors on all the cable news stations talking about ATHF, Master Shake, Frylock, Meatwad & Mooninites sound like they are trying to speak another language. Even if Turner pays massive fines...it's probably more publicity than they ever thought they'd get. It'll be worth every cent.
My bet is if they've got them up in other cities, they filed their paperwork. I strongly doubt they'll be able to justify any fines. All we've learned in that the Boston PD is on par with the Plutonians.
I used to live in Boston, just a few years ago. I find it sad that everyone involved got so dumb in the past few years. I used to know plenty of smart people who lived there.
With me living in the Boston area, this was not funny at all. A lot of stuff including major roads were closed down and there was some panic.
Wow...a dumb advertising campaign for a stupid show by a ******ed broadcasting company....couldnt EVER see that blowing up in their faces..... Sorry but I didnt see much humor in that either especially since the things were being found UNDER bridges and near heavily visited areas. Maybe if the TBS people would've actually used their rapidly fading brain cells and warned the city management of this campaign, problems could've been avoided. Then again, good decision making has never been a strong suit at that company.
Teensy tiny itty bitty things that make this extremely unfunny include, but are not limited to, the following: Scaring the majority of Boston residents for the better part of the day. Triggering a security alert that involved hundreds upon hundreds of people (emergency crews, federal agents, bomb squads, policemen and the U.S. Coast Guard). Shutting down highways and major roads. Cordoning off entire city blocks. Closing bridges. Closing the Charles River. Costing thousands upon thousands (millions?) of taxpayer dollars. You know, little things like that.
What does that have to do with alarmed citizens calling 911 to report the "suspicious" looking devices? Also, checking permits is probably not in the top 10 things police do when responding to a 911 call. Just my hunch.
And exactly which of these things can be blamed on the ads, and not the cops? Honestly, the more I hear about it, the funnier it is. They were hanging up for WEEKS. If they were actually bombs (and I have no idea why people would think they were), they would have done their jobs way before anybody noticed them. And the city knew about them and approved them? There's nobody to blame but city officials and a lack of communication on their part.
I bet the response of a lot of the posters would be different if this were a stunt promoting something like the NFL, or MLB, or Microsoft instead of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
How can cops be considered inept when people called in and reported the lights? I know if I saw a device in a suspicious location that did not appear to be something supposed to be there I sure as HELL would call it in.
As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what the signs were promoting. If the city knew about and approved them, the cops should have been told about them before this whole thing went this far. Actually, I'll bet that if they were for something more well known like the NFL or Budweiser, nobody would have called. At least something good may come of it...hopefully lines of communication will be opened and nothing like this will happen again.
