That's MP-27 Ironhide's bumper? That's terrible. I applied pledge floor polish to mine right out of the box as a preventative measure. Same with Ratchet. No issues so far.

When i got him, i didnt know about pledge or problems with his chrome till i became more active on this site.

Yea, i soaked then in isopropyl alcohol and they it just scrapped right off. I was gonna chrome my mpm4 but that canned when i accidently got some on his flames, and i tried taking it off with the alcohol and this happened with the flames.
Was mainly my own stupidity becuase i didnt think the paint wouldve came off easy.

@SPLIT LIP i wouldnt suggest using nail polish remover to try and. Remove the chrome this is what happened when i tried.

Idk if its showing up well, but it hardened the chrome. I ran oit of isopropyl alcohol so i tried nail polish remover. Wouldnt suggest.

These markers look impressive from what you’ve shown in this thread.

I have a question about those Grimlock tests: what part is painted with the marker? It’s really hard to tell since I’m not familiar with that figure and you didn’t specifically describe which part has the marker applied.

Has anyone here tried Molotow’s burner spray chrome? Looks like their product line is designed for graffiti artists, but if the pens look this great I’m wondering if the spray paint would be useful for chroming toy parts.

Just an update. I have noticed that you get a gritty chrome look when painting on top of metallic silver (and other close metallics like gunmetal, steel, aluminum etc) paint. A second layer of chrome gets rid of the grit but it might be worthwhile to take some alcohol to get rid of the metallic paint before applying the chrome.

I’ve been reading reviews of these pens on amazon and one mentioned that the paint isn’t very durable for parts that are handled a lot.

Any updates regarding durability, @artimus prime? I’m also wondering if coating it with Pledge/Future after it has dried will work or if the polish will cause the chrome effect to lessen.

These look like a dream come true, and most of the reviews I’m reading say the same thing.

I'm still testing them. As per @big hank I'll be using white plastic spoons for some controlled experiments. Does primer help them bond better? Would a black basecoat give a better finish? One of them will be to try different clear coats. I can say that you absolutely can't handle it before the curing time or you'll botch the job. I got a fingerprint on one of Prime's fuel tanks and tried to use water to get rid of it and ruined the whole tank.  Had to redo it.

Edit: most reviews say not to clear coat it.

Definitely do a clearcoat test run. Alclad turns to hazy shit if you clearcoat it with anything but waterbased urethane. Same with the chroming powder l used.

The results posted here have been very interesting, but I'm wondering about durability myself. Has anyone used a clear coat with this? I'm thinking polyurethane for the high gloss surface. It'd probably look like a mirror after some light buffing with a Dremel. Are they fumey? Leave streaks? Do they come in a gold tint?

I read some other posts about the Molotow markets on a model/toy forum. They were discussing clear coating and one person said Future gave the best outcome but still affected the chrome-like finish. Someone there said they contacted Molotow and were told that it can’t be clear coated without altering the finish.

There was one person who said a couple of light mistings of a clear coat, with drying between them, followed by a full clear coat seemed to help protect the finish from the clear coat itself.

When I can I’ll come back in here and post a link to that forum.

No color chrome as of right now. No intense fumes at all. Smells like a marker more than paint. Streaks depend on your technique. I recommend practicing to learn the paint flow to avoid painting with a marker that's running out of pigment... causing brush strokes.
