I don't own any version of the classics/generations/whatever Jazz mold, but I think I want to. What's the best version of it? I'd make a poll, but I don't know what all the options would be.

    United.

And in response to anyone who might say 'But that's too expensive'.

    RTS + The reprolabels set.

Keep in mind I'm considering all characters, not just Jazz. Price is not a concern. Thanks.

I would still go with United Jazz dude, although Stepper comes a very close second IMO.

Jazz. Never had the Unites version in-hand, but come on. It's Jazz. No matter which side of the Pacific he's from, he's the coolest cat around.

Stepper's pretty slick too, but personally, I'd only get him if you're planning on getting Artfire, too.

Don't even consider the RTS version if your budget isn't super tight. I've had the RTS one with reprolabels in hand, and own the united version, and there's just no comparing the two. Even with reprolabels, the RTS Jazz is inferior to the United toy.

Japan United Jazz is the best. If exclusives are your thing there's Stepper (who?) and I've seen a few 2012 Botcon figures using that mold.

Stepper. I love that figure. It's awesomeness even overcomes Jazz nostalgia.

I find it fascinating how all the redecos of the figure are ridiculously exclusive.

United IS the way to go IF you can afford it.

I'm happy with my RTS release (and might paint the tailights one day) but, yeah, United is better.

    Edit:
Re: Non-Jazz characters for the mold. Yes, many color schemes look really great but, for me, the mold IS Jazz. It has speaker that fold out for cripes sakes. Who else does that work for?

And besides, who are half those characters anyway, which gets to the question: Are you looking for a character or just a cool coloring of the mold?

Personally, of all the redecoes of that mold, my favorite that I've seen has to be Kick-Off...

If you're also getting Artfire, get Stepper. The two of them work perfectly together, on his own, Stepper is just a black and gold Jazz.

If you have any obsession with actionmaster Kick Off or Armada's Sideswipe's deco, get Kick Over or Treadshot from Botcon's sets.

If you just want Jazz, get the United version and call it a day.

Don't bother with the RTS version if you're not concerned about budget.

My advice would be skip the RTS and suck it up, or budget accordingly, because you will not be disappointed. United Jazz is a bargain... compared to every redeco exclusive (and is arguably better than every one of those decos.)

    Ebay:
    1) United Jazz - $40 (the white is that white!!!)
    2) United Stepper - $90-$120 (comes with a targetmaster)
    3) RTS Jazz - $10-$15 (cheep, cheep, cheep)
    4) Botcon12 Kick-Off/Over - $? (the colors on this one really pop, new head)
    5) Botcon12 Treadshot - ? (UM->Battle In A Box Treadshot->Armada Sideswipe redeco, of course!, new head)
    6) Botcon12 Long-Arm (Shockwave) - $500-$1,200 (lots of dough and no QC control, alt new head)

    Okay, I have to ask.

Can someone please explain to me why the United version is considered so 'superior' to the RTS version? I'm asking out of genuine curiosity, not to be snarky. I own the RTS version, and I have little to no criticism about it, other than the leg panels on mine being a little weird with their springs.

Detailed paint apps that are not present on the Hasbro version, but most of all the white of the plastic is SOOO white! The figure looks so clean and precise. It's one of those things that's hard to truly appreciate unless you put them side by side, but as soon as you do...

    Paint.

It has tail lights and grill paint for starters which REALLY bring out the mold's highlights. Really, my biggest gripe with the RTS version is how bland the rear of the car is.
