Looks like its the same part and gimmick that came with THS KO Megatron., which preorders on some places cost twice as this upgrade,

If this gets in legal issues, or if the voice used isn't the original Megatron (but a poor, Hasbro-style impersonator voice), then I would recommend the company concerned uses a micro SD card/usb slot, a cheap mp3 player and speaker to circumvent all of this. It worked fine for Device Label Soundwave (although he didn't come with a speaker).

 

I too found Show.Z to be quite reliable, and their customer service was pretty decent too, in my experience. Their AliExpress store is also legit but it's easier just to buy directly from them (especially since you can use PayPal that way).

I'm going to assume they think it'll be easier for the majority of consumers to have it all pre-assembled. Which would be true, even though you and I and a bunch of others here would be happy just to have the electronics themselves.

I'm sure it'll be the original Megatron but my worry is that they'll just rip clips straight from the cartoon and so they'll be poor quality.
I don't really see your solution working well though - with the size, you might just be able to cram all that in, but it'd likely end up more expensive than a silicon blob chip, which is also the route they'll more than likely take (which also means it's almost impossible to modify yourself, unless you're very skilled).

I thought I saw someone who had done such a mod but maybe I'm wrong. Those things have been done before though, but again, they're usually low-quality.

 

I was looking into trying a cheap MP3 mod for MP36 when I 1st got him but the one thing about the chips I found is because they're meant to be full function MP3 players I couldn't find a small enough one that would easily allow for random track playback from only 1 button.

 

I bought a cheap, unpowered headphone jack speaker for my Device Label Soundwave, and it works a treat.

My concern is that they’ll take the super easy route that one of the MP-36 KO’s has taken. They ripped the megatron sound files from the recent Transformers Devastation game. It’s no doubt a lot easier to extract pure sound files that way without having to worry about background sound/music. Unfortunately, while it is Frank Welker doing the voice, it’s him 30 years older. Cullen’s Prime voice has aged well, but Welker’s Megatron is a little off now. That throaty, scratchy voice used for Megs is probably pretty rough in the voice box. Other issue is that he’s not using the phrases we all remember, and most of us want. They’re definitely Megatron-ish, but not quite right. I want the toon voice and phrases, but I honestly doubt that’s possible.

 

Only if you can attach MP-36's fusion cannon to Despotron, and I assume you can't so... nope. You might be able to gut the electronics and transfer it though, assuming Despotron already has electronics inside his cannon (I don't remember if he does or not).

Whilst I agree with you, I still think that would be preferable to the alternative of ripping clips with background audio from the cartoon.
I'm not sure if they would have access to any other raw voice-only sound clips. It's possible, but I can't think of where they'd get them from.
Also, I still haven't played Devastation even though I've been meaning to...
