    Hidden One Year War

    Apocalypse 0079

Gundam MS IGLOO 2: The Gravity Front (not yet licensed for a U.S. release)

See the problem is that most of the newer Gundam shows follow their own chronology and dont affect eachother.

    Universal Century:
    1. Mobile Suit Gundam
1a. Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War
1b. Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: Apocalypse 0079
1c. Gundam MS IGLOO 2: The Gravity Front
    1d. 8th MS Team
    1e. Gundam 0080
    2. Gundam 0083
    3. Zeta Gundam
    4. Gundam ZZ (Double Zeta)
    5. Char's Counterattack
    6. Gundam F91
    7. Mobile Suit Victory Gundam

Then you have After Colony with Gundam Wing:
    1. Gundam Wing
    2. GW: Endless Waltz

    Cosmic Era with Gundam Seed:
    1. Gundam Seed
    2. GS: Destiny
    3. GS C.E73 Stargazer

    Future Century:
    1. G Gundam

    After War:
    1. After War Gundam X

    Correct Century:
    1. Turn A Gundam (does use Newtypes, though not related to UC shows)

    A.D. (as in, our timeline):
    1. Gundam 00

Well since you want to start at the begining I would pick this up if I were you:
Amazon.com: UC Gundam Movie Pack (The Movie Trilogy/Char's Counterattack/Miller's Report): Tôru Furuya, Hirotaka Suzuoki, Shôzô Îzuka, Toshio Furukawa, Kiyonobu Suzuki, Fuyumi Shiraishi, Yô Inoue, Rumiko Ukai, Shûichi Ikeda, Katsuji Mori, Yuzuru Fuji

That's a great place to start. Oh and since you said you were confused check out:Mobile Suit Gundam | Z Gundam | Gundam ZZ | V Gundam | G Gundam | Gundam X | Gundam Wing | Turn A Gundam | G Savior that lists every Gundam show ever.

You got the Gundam Dynasty Warriors 2 game? Its pretty fun right? I've only played Amuro's "official" mode and it does "mirror" the events in the anime quite abit. Do you post on gamefaqs? I recall there's someone who asked a similar question.

When you mention "Mobile Suit Gundam", it normally refers to the very first series i.e. Amuro ,Char, the Zabi family etc.

Anyway, I shall focus on the UC (Universe Century) Era and the original anime (ignoring stuff like Igloo, War in a pocket etc). The story arcs are and some of the cast:

    1. Mobile Suit Gundam aka One Year War

Federation - Amuro, Bright, Kai, Hayato
Zeon - Char, Gaia, Mash, Ortega, Ramba Ral, M'Que, Dozzle

    2. Zeta Gundam

AEUG - Kamille, Char/Quttaro (Spelling?), Bright, Amuro
Titians - Sciroco (spelling?), Yazen, Jerid, Four
    Axis - Haman

    3. Double Zeta

AEUG - Judua (spelling), Roux, Bright
    Axis - Haman, Glemy

    4. Char's Counterattack

London Bell - Amuro, Chan, Hathaway (son of...er, let you find out)
    Neo Zeon - Char, Quess

I shall focus on "Mobile Suit Gundam". The anime comes in 2 forms - TV series and movie compliation.

    i) TV series.

It contains over 40 episodes. I believe the US series had one episode removed.

    ii) Movie Compliation

Basically the plot of the series is still the same with some noticable differences:

    - the G Fighter gimmick for the original Gundam (RX-78-2) is removed
    - some battle scenes are also removed. For example, the Goggs and the Gyan (IMO they should have kept that one)
    - some shifting of the scenes. For example, the black tri-stars battle, the encounter of the Rick Doms which Amuro shoots a couple down
    - new animation for the "final" arc.

If you can tolerate the "dated" animation, I suggest that you watch the TV series because IMO it really was ahead of its time.

The movie compliation adds a more complete "feel" to the overall Mobile Suit Gundam saga and some of the battles feel really epic.

You're find that some of the newer Gundams (such as SEED) to have recycled some of the other series.

As where to get them, I suggest you can try ebay but be warned that some are bootlegs and the English subs are really terrible.

On a sidenote, Zeta Gundam received the movie treatment and experienced the same differences in "Mobile Suit Gundam" also. Where there's a much happier ending.
