I think what he means is, if this particular design was always an Autobot, which the answer is yes. He got this design after he switched sides.
I dunno, it's definitely far better looking than any of the other ones.
Yeah MMC's stuff is usually pretty great. I have some nitpicks with a few of their stuff. Some I really dislike (personal opinion and that would be their take on Cyclonus).
Other than the wonky alt mode(s), this guy is great.
It's a little more complicated than this but basically all four of these megatrons are the same megatron in idw's attempts at merging continuities as best it can.
In many of the more modern comics they'll have brief or extended flash backs of Megatron in the past and he'll be drawn differently but even MTMTE has had him looking like his g1 self. Bomber megs is the only one that I'd say is strictly and 100% in continuity though as that's the previous body autobot megs had which he discarded when he was resurrected and then that new design was replaced in favor of alex milnes now beloved one which cassy based his design off for tyran.
So yeah he's con megs and auto megs but then he became auto megs at a time past the war where the whole faction thing in general doesn't really matter anymore.
Actually, the first one is Dreamwave's War Within Megatron, not IDW Megatron. And the second is just a classic G1 Megatron, but IDW Megatron did wear the classic G1 Megatron body at various times, most notably during All Hail Megatron (he also wore a modernized version of the classic gun body redesigned by EJ Su for the -ations series).
Just got him yesterday! His articulation is a bit limited, he's got ridiculously huge cannons and gaps in his arms, and i really can't be bothered with his alt modes, but yeah, nevertheless, All Hail Tyrantron!
This is definitely the best looking IDW Megatron there is and I am humbled by his presence in my collection.
"I would have waited an eternity for this."
He does have a waist swivel - in fact there are two but one is so restricted it's almost redundant. Yours may just be scarily tight to get moving like mine was.
It may take a bit of force to turn it first time out but it's very much there.
Oh the images I used were just used to represent eras of megatrons life, I wasn't at all saying warwithin megs and og g1 megs are idw continuity specifically lol, just that idw has its own versions of those concepts of megatron from different time periods of his life. Early War, Earth War, Late War and Post War Megs exists within IDW and are all the same Megatron. IDW has its own version of WW megs and earth megs etc.
You're absolutely right! He does have a waist swivel! I stand corrected.
My copy was just too tight it terrified me to even try to force it the first time but after reading your message, i somehow managed to make it work after slowly and carefully trying several times. Thanks for the heads up! Tyrantron just scored additional points in my book now that i know he'a got a waist swivel!
All hail Tyrantron indeed!
If Prime can take out combiners and Thunderwing alone, he can match Megatron as far as I'm concerned
I'm totally fine with the TR Deluxe... after a few adjustments of course. Plus he scales better with the rest of my CHUG figures this way.
My Tyrantron is out for delivery. Oh UPS, don't play with my heart.
Damn Honesty that's a really great crew you got there. I haven't had the will power to stick with a voyager or bigger rule like you, and as a result I have numerous Deluxe MTMTE characters, but damn this picture is pushing me to rethink my collection.
Do you think you could do the pose with Brainstorm pointing his gun at Megs from Elegant Chaos Part 2??
This guy could really have used an extra face or two. One showing a bit of emotion would have been ideal.
Also, he's cool, but I'm definitely a little underwhelmed. QC-wise, he's fine. Holds his cannons up ok and I'm not sure where all this talk of cheap feeling plastic comes from? But his articulation is quite limited and when placed next to Rioter Despotron, he just looks... awkward. Where Rioter oozes personality, Tyrantron looks kinda like a brick.
To be more specific, in regards to IDW Megatron, these have been the major designs he's sported. He started as a miner who rebelled against society, became a gladiator, and that was what the Decepticons spun out from. After millions of years of stalemates and losses (and a couple other things), he gives up the Decepticons and becomes an Autobot. None of it feels forced, it all works.
Does he ever use his War Within design? Even in flashbacks?
I must be remembering it incorrectly as I was sure he had the yellow on his chest during when Starscream was juicing up on Super Energon or around that time in the comics?
Mine arrived yesterday, but I won't have time to open it till today.
War Within is only Dreamwave. IDW gave them their own pre-war designs.
Yep--we've got toys of most of them now, between MegaSteel's Stormbringer figure, Hegemon for Furmanation, and the upcoming GT MP stealth bomber model. Although Tyrantron's miner mode doesn't match the Origins one.
Wonder if anyone will bother with the neither-here-nor-there of Dark Cybertron?
