Customs: mixing gloss and flats?

    can I mix gloss and flat finish paints? will it dull down the finish?

    Let's look at it this way:

    Gloss paint is 100% gloss.
    Flat paint is 100% flat.
    Half-Half mix is 50% gloss.

    So yeah, not as glossy. Of course, you could just apply a gloss clear coat.

    Personally, i only paint in flat paints where possible, because it's easy to turn a flat paint glossy with a clear coat, but it's hard to make a gloss paint matte.

    I'm really want to de-gloss some colors that I could only find in gloss. I also want to use up some paints I've had laying around for a while now. And I got a new airbrush so I figured while I'm practicing and getting the feel of it I could experiment a bit too.

    House of Kolors make a flattening additive. Too much will lighten up the color, but it's good stuff. It's typically easier to flat out the gloss w/ a matte clear coat once it's sprayed.
