can I mix gloss and flat finish paints? will it dull down the finish?
Let's look at it this way:
Gloss paint is 100% gloss.
Flat paint is 100% flat.
Half-Half mix is 50% gloss.
So yeah, not as glossy. Of course, you could just apply a gloss clear coat.
Personally, i only paint in flat paints where possible, because it's easy to turn a flat paint glossy with a clear coat, but it's hard to make a gloss paint matte.
I'm really want to de-gloss some colors that I could only find in gloss. I also want to use up some paints I've had laying around for a while now. And I got a new airbrush so I figured while I'm practicing and getting the feel of it I could experiment a bit too.
House of Kolors make a flattening additive. Too much will lighten up the color, but it's good stuff. It's typically easier to flat out the gloss w/ a matte clear coat once it's sprayed.
