Character development doesn't mean they change. It just means they have many defined quirks, merits, flaws, and other defined character traits so that the audience (read: not just hardcore TF fans) can identify and sympathize with them. Ironhide didn't have much save being big and triggerhappy. Thus, the OP is completely correct.

A character does not need 100 lines to have a character. If you watch the movies, listen to their lines, how they say it, when they say it and what they do, even if they only have a total of 20 lines, you should be able to understand their character. If you can't, well it's either the character is a mindless computer or you're not doing it right.

We pretty much learnt in the first film that Ironhide was not particularly fond of humans and that him and Ratchet appeared to be close friends considering their roles were sort of the complete opposite. He appears to have some leadership skills which is seen at the end of TF1 when he leads the charge against Brawl, and throughout ROTF after Optimus' death. By ROTF his dislike for humans has been lessened as certain soldiers (Like Lennox) have made an impact on him. We see this at the end of first film when Ironhide drops Lennox off. In the second film, we see his admiration for Optimus when Ratchet asks if they should leave, he responds by saying, "That's not what Optimus would want". We also learn he's a no-nonsene sort of guy and doesn't think much of human weaponry and can get enraged when provoked, kind of like Optimus, "You dare point a gun at me! You want a piece of me! I will tear you apart!" He also hates planes. In the third film he appears to have become more casual with the humans and is the obvious second-in-command at this point. The way he responds to Lennox shows how much respect he has for him, and the way he speaks to the Dreads implies that he can be sarcastic.

So in shorter form. Ironhide was a big, weapon loaded war machine who used to dislike humans but grew closer to them over the course of several years. He got angry easily, could be sarcastic even in the most serious situations and was a close friend of Lennox's.

    That's his character ^
And if you think about what Balder said, surely it makes you feel sorry for Ironhide.

Lack of a Transformers 4 is killing the movie forum.

If people need a new movie every 6 months in order to have decent discussions then it was moribund from the start.

    First you say this:
However, you go on to say:

None of which would be realized without some form of developement.

You're mixing characterization with Character Development, too different things in my book: "Development" is making a character [who already has his default personality well-established] face a moral arc where he has some change in his personality and world-views, maybe drastic, maybe not, "characterization" is merely showing his normal personality.

To exemplify, Character Development was when the playboy Tony Stark realized his mistakes and become a more humble man at Yusuf's side, Characterization is showing him in the Casino as an utter self-centered jerkass.

You're confusing "character developement" with "Character growth".
Character is developed in part by characterication. Growth is more of what you are describing.

Do not know about you, but I feel affection for all the Autobots. When Ironhide died, I cried and couldn't stopped myself, for me he is dear as a friend, as a particle of the world, which I used to. This is a full-fledged part of the world as my friends and family. And it's terrible when so suddenly and violently someone takes it from you.
Who is it said that his character did not develop? If someone is going to miss him, so He was a great character! And I will miss, I know for sure.
I will miss the blue eyes, one of which squints in the another direction, miss the broad back, which always cover up those who are especially dear to me, miss the raucous mocking voice (even Russian), in which is not less of love for people! I will always remember how in ROTF, when NEST were expelled from Diego Garcia, Ratchet said that they should depart from the Earth, and Ironhide interceded: "Optimus would have done differently..."
