I was looking around Geewun_Redux and I stumbled onto a thread that gave me pause.....T-man pointed out "Mirage's lost transformation step...After studying both of my Mirage's I have been able to find only one viable use for these "unmentioned flaps". And having them placed where I do they seem to strengthen the chest quite a bit !! What do you think?

That is how I transform mine, and his chest is quite a bit more stable that way. Thank you for sharing such detailed photographs, Vector, it is highly appreciated.

If you look closely it looks like the tabs are supposed to latch somewhere on the chest. Me and Dark Magnus have been racking our brains for ways to do it though and the closest thing we came up with is what you've done, but it looks as though the flaps should rest or latch into the side pieces. However, the one side doesn't seem to be designed to angle itself enough without feeling as if it's going to snap the plastic. I'm hoping the more indepth step by step that eventually comes with the Takara version (hopefully Kiss Rodimus) will answer the mystery fully.

As Razerwire explained it to me, it's a delicate balacing act. The two tabs on the side of the hood fit into the little spaces on the black pieces. It may be a little tougher to do on some Mirages than other because of joint tightness. I was able to do it. I'll post a couple pics, as crappy as they may be.

Ahh... I think I might just be able to do that now... it looks like you're keeping them more straight than Dark Magnus and I were trying to do... going to have to attempt that later today. Again, thanks for the pics.

The chest flaps aren't really supposed to "latch on" to the hood piece. They just cover up the empty space. The 45-degree angle the chest flaps naturally lock into is impossible to "latch on" to the hood, but it still makes contact.

Lost step? We're meant to read the instructions?

A note for those of you who haven't moved the flaps during transformation - on quite a few examples of Mirage they've turned out to be a fragile area. Proceed with caution.

    That's in the instructions.

I missed it the first time too.

Actually, they are not that hard to get in there. I got mine to stay in pretty well. It doesn't really add any stability for if you touch it the one side, the right on mine, pops out pretty easily. It does look better.

I gave up trying to get the tabs to line up. I just lean them up against the chest piece and call it good.

When I got Mirage when I came to that part of the instructions it showed the tabs being pulled out but did not show the chest plate being attached. It took me a while to get them to stay since the left tab on mine is a little tight.

Yeah, it's quit the balancing act. I just figured out how to get the tabs to line up right. I find it funny that all the Alts seem to have lost steps in their instructions. At least the recent Alts have had this syndrom starting with Skids that I noticed. Wonder if Hasbro is just being lazy with their instructions now or if they really aren't being told everthing by the Tak/Tomy designers... like it gets lost in translation or something of the sort.
