This is the first time I think the "alien look" will hurt the toy and concept. All the others have an evolved Vehicon vibe to them, but I feel Megatron went a bit too far to make him alien.
the bot mode looks incfredible, considering its the same size as G1 bumblebee.. i love the head sculpt and body proportions, much more than most of the various megatrons there have been over the years. i never thought id be saying this but... bay megatron's head is actually one of my favourites, after jazz ironhide and prime's heads. shame his alt mode -in these pics- just looks like his robot mode has fallen down the stairs... HOWEVER two IMPORTANT THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND: firstly, based on the concept art, the alt mode is cleary upside down. you are looking at images of the underside of the ship people. in reality, the engines and rear wings are higher than the cockpit area, which makes it look alot less ******ed. those three tailfeather things are meant to be on teh bottom, not the top. secondly, his transformation will not work like that - look at prime, his mini-version has two sets of front windscreens, one on his chest and one on his arm - these are cheat-formers people! megatron's actual transformation is quite different to this, his legs do NOT become wings, his legs become the engines. The wings fold out from the panels on his back, and the bits at the end of his wings on this mini-version that are made from his feet, actually come from his shoulders in the proper version. All that being said, im still holding out a vague hope that he will indeed take on an earth alt-mode later on in the movie... but unfortunately that would be totally out of keeping with his nazi human-hating persona in the script
For a 3" figure, there is quite a bit of detail. I just hope that he's mistransformed, and his jet mode looks a little better. I feel people are maybe judging the toy too harshly, considering it's a $4.99 toy. While the body is perhaps ugly, the head design is starting to grow on me, as Megatron is starting to look quite menacing. I'll fully reserve judgement on this toy until painted prototypes appear, but I'll fully judge Megatron when CGI footage and the much larger and complex toys appear of him.
I look for the good in every Transformer. I found it in Beast Machines Silverbolt, Supreme Cheetor and even Geckobot. I found it in Cybertron Hardtop and Metroplex. I even found it in the Generation One Pretender Monsters. But this... this...this doesn't deserve to be a tick on Megatron's balls! Much less, Megatron himself. I can only hope that the larger version at least looks good in robot form.
Here's hoping the larger version of Megatron is not 1/16 as bad as this, or they have officially completely screwed up 2 of the biggest characters in Transformers lore, in my book.
Nice! Now that's how you update a classic like Transmutate!!! I can't wait to see this Megatron you guys keep talking about though.
Oh I thought this was the new Venom from Spider-man 3. Thanks for clearing that up. Poor Transmutate, he used tobe such a cute little guy.
