Since I work at an elementary school, seeing a cute little hamster on the cover of a book for kindergarteners about the furry little things, I picked it up and started flipping through its pages. I was shocked to see something on one particular page. It showed to hamsters mating and even stated that the hamsters were "mating"! (Yes, it showed one hamster on top of the other hamster with his rump rammed into hers.) This is a children's book for crying out loud which is rather scary! I saw another children's book about some other cute animals in another classroom that mentioned what happens when certain animals "mate". Yes another book targetted at little kids which is disturbing since they are too young to read about such stuff. I know. Some people will say it's just animals and not humans so it's ok. But its still sex whether it's animals doing it or people.

All of this got me thinking about cartoons and "Transformers Prime" in general. If they are showing animals mating in little children's books now and even using the word, "mate", what's next for cartoons aimed at children? Are they going to be showing some mild hanky panky in "TF Prime" or worse in the future?

This is a joke right? :drunk

I don't think will get anything like that. But the inclusion of Female Transformers is probably the closest this franchise will ever get for predominately a Boy's toy-line.

If we get anything, it'll probably be Megatron shoving a dark energon shard up his aft.

First off, there isn't anything wrong in exposing children to sexual content, in it's basic form. The idea that we must mask children from "impurities" is, in my opinion, an outdated view. School should not, in my opinion, prevent children from learning.

However, it's simply a fact that the loudest part of our society screams that children should indeed remain "pure" and that means cartoons cannot have explicit sexual content whatsoever.

Cartoons have had sexual innuendo for years though, often in ways children don't really understand anyway.

I liked TF:Animated's funny little nod towards sex, and Prime's reaction was pure gold.

What the flipping hell? Any natural history book worth its salt, even if it's directed at a young audience, is likely to include this topic. It's nothing new. When I was three years old I read about, and gleefully explained to no-doubt horrified parental ears, how shark mating rituals went (they are a bit violent).

I also can't figure out what in the Nine Hells this has to do with Transformers.

Kids do need to learn about the world they live in. Showing kids that two animals mate in order to produce offspring isn't the end of society and won't corrupt our young. It'll simply show that the old views of convincing children that a baby is brought to it's mom by a stork is outdated and unnecessary.

How this applies to TF cartoons, I have no idea.

Spunky is relating it to transformers using a "slippery slope" argument, saying that if books on animals refer to mating, perhaps transformers will turn into pornography.

I'm not saying "TF Prime" will turn into pornography. All I'm saying is that if children's books allow for sexual things that were not present 20 years ago, then what will children's cartoons allow? I don't think children's books would have been allowed to show animals mating many years ago.

The answer is the most cartoon's show today is sexual innuendo. Sexuality is acceptable for children ONLY in the educational field. I.e. educational books. So an educational cartoon may show some "mating", but transformers won't.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy but I could swear they used to have animals mating on the nature shows years ago.

But I think it's a bit different to have mating in a nature documentary vs mating in a work of fiction. That doesn't mean that you can't slip in some stuff that the parents will get but the little kids will not.

Dude, you make the most bizzare-ass connections to shit that is in no way connected.

I seriously doubt hamsters gettin' it on is goign to be a major detriment to Transformers fiction.

I'm not sure what what sort of hanky panky (if any) we can expect from a show about alien robots waging a war not done by "BOOM-BOOM Bay" :bay

Umm dude you realize the show is to sell toys? putting in mating references would likely get parents to turn it off fast . I think the only real mating reference in Transformers needs to stay that Daniel exists because Spike and Carly had a kid.

there is a difference between a non fictional educational book and a tv show about giant robots fighting a war that's been going on millennia.

I can safely say that the only way you are going to see transformers doing those things is if you google it.
