Are the colors the only difference between the Hasbro and Takara releases of the Micromaster Gestalts? How fun are these to fiddle around with, articulation and combining wise? Are they worth it?

well, there the same (has ver. -tak ver.) maybe a bit of quility change, from mold degration etc. as far as play there cool, tipical micromasters, and same as any other G1 combiner, extra parts but they combine to make up a ship sled type thing.

I love those guys... But then again, I'm a Micromaster Whore©. I bought the Takara ones way back when, and then got the Devastator and Superion sets for the US (since the Defensor and Rail Racer ones were identical to the Japanese ones).

The smaller figures have limited articulation but the gestalt gets slightly more though. Pretty much the same articulation as the G1 gestalts. The color schemes vary differently though.
    • SixTurbo (Japanese) and Defensor are almost identical.
    • I don't remember which one it was, but the US version of SixTrain/Six Liner was identical to the Japanese one
    • Aerialbots and SixWing are completely different paint jobs, plus the Japanese one is a Decepticon while the US one is painted like the G1 Aerialbots
    • SixBuilder and Devistator are also completely different. SixBuilder is similar to its first release while the US one is similar to the chase version of Sixbuilder in G1 purple & green.

They are pretty fun and look good, but they do suffer articulation wise. If you are like me and really dig gestalts they are a line of bots. If articulation is your big thing, you might be a little bit disappointed. They are fun but do suffer from being 15+ years old.

Kinda depends on the set the bazerker sets (if I spelled that right) being the more expensive, and the Universe the cheepest, from $25-30 a set and up.

Recently developed a love affair with them. I'm hoping to get my hands on the US Constructicon set.

I got the K*B Universe Devs and Superions sets for $2 per figure. so 2 gestalts for less than $30 ain't bad.

i love my Devastator. the Superion set woulda been great but the arm on one of the jets popped- broke- right out of the package. So be careful with them.

i never could find the complete set for the others so i didn't get 'em.

i still think they are great, if a bit over simplified.
