Just found out Michael Bell (who will be at Toronto TransformersCon this Saturday) auditioned for the part of Prowl in the New Transformers Series - and didn't get the part.

The fanboy in me is somewhat saddened.

In a recent interview he sounded much the same as he did 20 years back.

Seems like a lousy way to treat such a talented and experienced VA.

Well if it can happen to Frank Welker then it can happen to anybody (except maybe for Cullen).

Not even the God of voices is safe from the wrath of...the Casting! *lol*

But yeah, that just totally sucks. I wonder what voice types they are looking for. David Kaye is Optimus Prime?!? Who'd have thought that?!?

Isn't his Prowl voice the same voice he uses for Duke in GI Joe? He's probably better known as a voice actor on that show (as GI Joe's main character) than TF. He recently used the same voice for a role in Age of Empires 3.

Would have been nice to hear him on the new show in any role, though. Here's hoping he auditions for future roles (and this show doesn't go down the path of the DC Animated shows where they give roles to live-action actors).

I betcha it went like this:

    Michael: Hey I'm Prowl!

Producers: That sounds great! What do you cost?

    Michael: X amount

Producers: Go to hell! We just found someone who'll do it for a third of your price!

New guy: Good bye Janitor outfit, hello voice acting career!

    Oop!

That sucks, Michael Bell's an awesome speaker on the industry. Happy to hear he's still getting roles elsewhere though.

While not in the least surprising, I am quite disappointed. As many have said, it'd be nice to hear Prowl being Prowl again after all this time, even if the character wouldn't technically be the same one as back in the original series of the 80's. Casting has their own vision on what their characters must sound like, and there is nothing, absolutely NOTHING that will dissuade them from their vision. Not previous experience, not popular fan support, and, heaven forbid, certainly not the fact they were the original voice for the character.

I suppose in that respect we're very lucky that Peter Cullen was such a good fit for Optimus Prime that even the casting for the live action movie had to agree. As I've stated before, at best, the fandom only got him an audition; everything else was on him to sell himself as the best voice. And apparently Bay agreed...that time. So much for Welker or anyone else though...talk about a cheap shot in not having to worry about Dan Gilvezan for Bumblebee.

They'll do what they want, they always will. At least there's nowhere to go, but up after the Unicron trilogy. Not only did that set of shows hit rock bottom, they drilled right on through into humilation oil.

Then again, I've learned never to underestimate people when discussing their stupidity...and just how far they can sink.

Since they're paying for the guy who does Spongebob, I don't think price is an issue. But hey, here's an idea! Let's assume the show's producers are disrespectful, idiotic and/or cheap because an actor didn't automatically get cast.

No actor, ever, has gotten every audition they've ever gone out for, and other than the fact that Hasbro's reusing a name, we know nothing about the character or what it calls for from the actor.
