are mexican packaging g1 toys just as good as the u.s. ones?
i only have the mexican skywarp, seems to be just as good as the USA
Are they different colors like the odd-colored Bumblebees and Cliffjumpers?
mmm i don't know
Mexican G1 Mini-bots also have unusual colors like the blue Bumblebee with the red face.
cool i did not know that
I heard the quality was pretty good but not quite as good as the USA G1 figures.
here are the differences with skywarp, mexican is on the left. you can see different shade of purple, it has more of a gray painted body other than just diecast. the china is covered on the trademark stamp. purple nose cone, not painted. it is purple rubber. and the landing gears are black plastic and not with diecast wheels.
Nosecone pics! I always thought Mexwarp had the best alt mode because of that Purple front.
Plastic quality is the same. What is different is that some figures come with different paint applications. For instance, Blitzwing's head is all dull red, instead of yellow with red eyes, Optimus has 2 red smidges for eyes, Twin Twist's face is painted dull red, Grapple might come with red soles, Hound might come with completely red feet.
I'm not kidding about Hound, I used to own one. It wasn't a custom paintjob, because it had some paint chipping on the corners, and you could clearly see the metal without any other paint present. Now I'm kicking myself for not taking photos of that.
Maz has some great articles on his site about some of the Mexican releases:
The links are broken, but you can work around that with Google:

I'm really surprised that there were even figures released. After my recent trip to Mexico City and Cuernavaca, I'll attest that Transformers get no retailer love in Mexico.
I know that the G1 Mexican Prowl is a sought after piece, he comes with stickers that say Policia instead of Police and I believe he has some areas painted black, his head and his rear fenders.
And let's not forget Mexican Optimus Prime with the bloodshot eyes.
haha i like that prime!
anyone know if the g1 mexican devastator is the same?
I'd LOVE to have a Mexican Prowl (image courtesy of Maz's site): Mexican Black Prowl
I may just end up doing a custom for kicks, though
Devastator is completely the same as the US version.
All of the '84-'85 transformers that were sold in my country back in '90-'91 were mexican, and those were direct imports from the main european distributer. In later years you could find US, Canadian and European versions, but those were "second hand" imports, bought from retailers in Greece or Italy and then resold in little retail toy shops.
Im surprised that no one has mentioned that they're lead painted yet.
I do have the mexican Screamer though..
The metallic plastic makes him look quite fancy
Guys Guys now their hispanic not Mexican that's stereotypical, ha.
Oh and Mexican Black Prowl sounds lovely as well.
I think it's odd that so many of these had red on them they seem to have really loved their red paint back then in Mexico.
I'm surprised Skywarp didn't have red zapatos.
I had read the Mexican Minibots pages a while back it is very interesting the resource that guy compiled.
