I love older country music. I've decided to start a thread where I'll post a youtube video every so often featuring the greatest performers and songs of all time.

Anyone on here who likes country music (I'm guessing not many, but who knows) will probably like it. Anyone who wants to get a a crib's notes version of the best of country music (and maybe get into country music) stay tuned. The stuff I post will all be high quality. If you don't like it, don't be a hater....just ignore the thread.

Its fitting for the first post to be of the King and Queen of Country.....George Jones and Tammy Wynette (doing a duet on the Wilburn Brothers Show shortly after they got married).

YES!!! I can't believe there are actually posts here and that they aren't making fun of me. Sweet. I love that Ring of Fire video Grimlock. Anyone who has cool C&W stuff to share on here I'd love you to post it.

Here's another one of my favorites......Buck Owens w/Don Rich (and one of their biggest hits of all time).

WARNING: DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THEIR OUTFITS....

I occasionally listen to country music, having grown up with listening to it.

Buck Owens is a very good country singer. I love watching him and Roy Clark on Hee Haw, which you can see Sunday nights on a channel called RFD-TV.

You watch RFD-TV? Dang, I thought I was the only one on TFW who watches that channel!

Yeah, I've seen the train shows. They were pretty interesting.

These days though, when I watch RFD-TV, it's mostly for Hee-Haw, but I also watch Country's Family Reunion, which features a lot of the more older, classic country stars who are still around.

Yeah. Classic country music is great. About 98% of current country music is bastardized garbage.

I heart some Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

I love me some good ol' boys. Cash, Nelson, Waylon, Haggard...their music isn't about fitting a mold, just singing what they thought needed to be sung. Went on a Johnny Cash tear this week- The entire collection of Cash on American (I-VI, the Unearthed box set and Cash/ Nelson: VH-1 Storytellers), plus the two disc greatest hits.
On a related note, my dad spent quite a bit of time in Texas during some of those early years, and played in some of the same bars as Willie, a much younger George Jones, and a few others. He'll even claim that he helped write 'Gee Ain't It Funny,' but there's naturally no proof, and people just all stole each other's songs back then anyway.

    So cool......

My dad tells me about the time he was out on the west coast as a young man and got to see Buck Owens and Don Rich in a small bar somewhere in San Fransisco. He said the crowd was no more than 100, and they just sang one good song after another. That would be great......

Heard some Ronnie Milsap at a restaurant today ('Home Fires Burning,'), and heard George Jones doing "He Stopped Loving Her Today" last time. They're definitely getting more of my business. Shane's Rib Shack FTW.
