To Sticker or not to Sticker?

  1. Yes, add the sticker sheet to Metroplex!

  2. No! It's likely an original, and that'll ruin it!

Well it seems as if I have come across a real, G1 Metroplex! Well, at least the turret for Slammer is, but I'm pretty sure the rest of it is too-I have encore Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx, doesnt have the same feel.

My dilemma is that I like the look of Metroplex all doled up with the Reprolabels add-on sticker sheet. Only thing is, I'm not sure what adding a modern set of reprolabels would do to the value of it. Normally I don't care about that kind of stuff and do with my figures as I please, but I've never had an actual original 1986 TF before. Thoughts?

I reprolabeled mine. Looks awesome. I do not think that it would hurt the value of the figure. The upgrades look so much better than the originals. I say go for it.

You mean the huge set w/ all the cool extra decals? If you can afford it, do it, it's an awesome set!

Sticker it. It's better to worry about your own enjoyment of the toy more than possible future resale.

Using the original sticker sheet would hurt the value more than adding reprolabels. They come off clean if you ever want to pull them off, but the add on set looks so good that you won't want to.

it actually has the original stickers. Should be "fun" getting them off. They DO have to come off to add Reprolabels, right?

Seems to me the answer is pretty simple, Reprolabel the Encore, and leave the vintage alone.

    Sticker it period.

It was made to have the stickers, so stickers it shall have.

It's not worht anymore than the Encore so who cares.

My original from 86 has the stickers on it :)

I get using reprolabels to replace used or missing stickers on a vintage piece. But I would not add any that weren't there on the original. I'd get an Encore for that.

But that's just me, I'm silly that way.

Coincidently, I finally got the courage to sticker up a Trypticon with the X15 Upgrade set last weekend, but it did take doing up my original G1 Metroplex with the X5, X10 and X11 sets to gather up the courage to do it. But both look magnificent with the Reprolabels!
There's a topic in the Radicon's section for the Metroplex upgrade set, which features a couple of pictures of the Metroplex I stickered up: Metroplex Upgrade stickers

Picture is link to full Flickr.com set.

Both Metroplex and Trypticon were originally very poorly stickered and would have needed to be restickered (with Reprolabels) anyhow. I convinced myself to sticker them up by telling myself that I wouldn't be selling either of them, that Reprolabels do come off cleanly and that the original sets for both Metroplex and for Trypticon, although of course the intended labels, are severly lacking in detail, and to me seem like afterthoughts, whereas the upgrade sets live up to the potential of these major Transformers, even if they were not the 'proper' stickers.
In the case of Metroplex, it helped that I already owned a regular stickered up Encore Metroplex before I got the G1 Metroplex.

And as a bonus, here's a link to my Trypticon with Reprolabels (I will need to redo these with proper lighting, but they give a fair idea).
