As long as Uwe Boll doesn't produce it, I will have a glimmer of hope for this movie.

Regardless of what happens, David Hayter needs a part in this movie.

    Yawn.

I have little faith in any movie based on a game. The studios just don't take them serious enough to allow for a truelly quality film. And they don't have the balls to do something so cheesy that it's just plain fun. They try to hover in between. The only one that kinda got it right was the first Mortal Kombat, which struck a fien balance between ultra cheesy and fun fights and a decent enough story to not be boring.

I have faith, because the game that is being adapted is almost like a movie already.

    MGS = Great experience.

10-20 hours in defeating a game and you really feel like you've accomplished something.

I definitely agree that video game films tend to get the shaft, even if the source material seems like it would be pretty good for a movie. I can just hope that the studio focuses more on the original concept than the video game itself, not getting dragged down by what the game is and focusing more on the story and characters within the game. Oh, and my vote for Snake - Eric Bana. Remember how badass he was in Blackhawk Down? Now that would be cool.

They MADE a metal gear solid movie. It was called Sons of Liberty.

I'd like to thank Penny Arcade for that joke. Not because they wrote it, but because it's obvious and poorly delivered.

Didn't Kojima outright say Uwe Boll will never touch Metal Gear?

Hope it turns out okay. :D

I see a Sony studio making this move as a very large disaster waiting to happen. They dont seem to take very much pride in any movie that does not start with the word "Spider", and end with the word, "man" (lol, Ghostrider for example -_-). This is also the studio that ran James Bond into the ground, each film since Goldeneye has gotten progressively worse, save Casino Royale. I wish Koijima would have gotten a good studio to make his movie. :(

Also, their product placement is just plain horrible and shameful. Im almost expecting Snake to sneak around in a cardboard box that says "Sony PS3", Otacon to use a Vaio laptop, the codec to be powered by the Cell processor, and the plans for a Metal Gear launch to be stored on a Blu-ray disk.

Like any adaptation of any media - there are good and bad.

I agree that games haven't been taken that seriously as adaptation material, but that also depends on the game.
I am a VG fan, I like playing great games, but I don't expect the game and movie to be 100% identical in any way, I'm very pleased with how RE and REApoc turned out with the whole 'bio-weapon test' angle.
Silent Hill, my first impression was "this is the best horror film in ten years!", my second thought was "this director knows his stuff when it comes to disturbing images, atmosphere and strange angles.." etc. The last thing I thought was, "this is actually very close to the world and reality of the games."
Those are the only two adaptations I think were of any merit, SH being of course the better one, and I hope the next stream of adaptations are on the same if not a higher level and caliber.
MGS is a tough sell as cinema, purely because of the universe it inhabits, like the Sony guy stated.
Personally I would rather see Kurt Russell as Snake. Snake is a seasoned pro, not a young-ish guy. Many people I know have people in mind like Thomas Jane or Casper Van Dien, but they are the wrong type. Its obvious to anyone that Kojima's Snake is modelled on Snake Plissken from 'Escape From New York'. Even so far as to have his false undercover name in 'Sons Of Liberty' be Plissken.

Why do I feel that movie couldn't help but be horrible?

Anyway, here's hoping the Metal Gear movie isn't crap.

    YES!

And as long as Kojima's a part of the movie's production, I have faith...

Want to know who I see as Solid Snake?

Ryan Reynolds. He is a talented actor and can play a really rough role. Look at him in the Amityville remake. Plus he is realitivly young and can do the physical actions and fullfil the requirements.

If not David Hayter, I say Viggo Mortensen.

    David Hayter?

I dunno... he was okay in The Guyer live action movies (I'm a Guyver fan) so he might still be able to do the physical acting. He is 38 so he could do it, but we'll see. I still think Ryan Reynolds could do it.
