OK, I officially love the RTS Lugnut figure, and I love the HFTD Axor figure. Here is the problem: When i have them posed together (like I have them on my desk now), deluxe Axor is actually larger as a bot than RTS voyager Lugnut. WTF, how can this happen when the smaller figure is a whole class size larger? Was Axor a great value, or is Lugnut a ripoff?
Lockdown's thing is being really lanky. Axor inherited that, as a remold. Lugnut, on the other hand, is meant to be short and squat. You just chose some bad examples.
Um. Neither. Height has little to do with Class size, just look at Cyb. Leader Metroplex. Lugnut is still heavier than Axor, right?
I saw this thread title and instantly thought it was going to be about how horrendous the scale was with Beast Machines toys.
I don't understand why Lugnut is meant to be short and squat. Is that b/c the animated toy was so undersized and now the character has to be defined by that toy vs. his likeness in the actual show (huge)?
I think in order to keep him looking large they have to sacrifice height. Where as Lockdown and such can be lanky, Lugnut needs to be wide in order to look proper. His Animated model was huge and stout, other than making him a leader or larger class this is the only way to pull it off.
Lugnut isn't meant to be short and squat so much as he's supposed to look beefy and massive in a "wide as he is tall" kinda way. (same deal goes for guys like Bulkhead and - to an extent - Blackout). A side-effect is, if total mass stays roughly the same, the wide guy is going to end up shorter than average compared to others in the same toy size class. Axor is a remold of Lockdown, known more for being tall and lanky, so the opposite end of the ' conservation of mass' rule is in effect.
This quote addresses anything regarding trying to rationalize scale in the TF universe. </thread> But in all seriousness, voyager class doesn't really do Lugnut justice. He should have been at least ultra class to more accurately represent his scale compared to deluxes, tall or otherwise.
Exactly, no size changing allowed in the real world. And classes are determined by the amount of plastic used...if anything mass is much more important than height.
Lockdown figures always screw up the scale. They need to do him at scout class. He'd probably still end up taller than most deluxes. And characters like Lugnut/Blackout are never seen as popular enough to justify the larger figure they require.
Indeed. For instance: Cybertron Metroplex is taller than Primus, but he's also thin and lanky (though he still pushed his price point to its absolute limit). Primus has a lot more mass. Axor there may be taller, but he's skinny as a rake.
