what the hell is a meccano?? dude.. when you review something make sure you're not the ONLY one to get what the frak yer' spouting out.

seriously, are you that lazy to put your exact thoughts about the movie into words? your wit--for me at least-- is as comprehensible as a Dada painting. this helps no-one who is deciding whether to see it or not.

True. Even if I listened to critics I would have no idea what the hell he's trying to say other than - "I hated the film" perhaps.
Meccano is a set, like Technik Lego:

    Meccano = Erector

Somewhere along the way, they stopped calling it "Erector". But yeah, it's the newly-ish used name for Erector sets.

Meccano and Erector are two different, albeit similar, products/companies.

Edit: Although apparently, Meccano bought the US rights to Erector in the 1990s

that's just it, does the film merit enough hate that it makes critics lazy to effectively point out what was wrong with it other than making some odd reference to a toyline to wail on the flick?

for me it lacked clarity in explanation other than the critic trying to be witty. so you hate it.

    why?

    "well, meccano".

    what.

fine granted it's a popcorn flick, an action film... hell, a glorified toy commercial. but don't just leave analysis at that.

i've went an entire childhood without ever getting into contact with that toyline, so i'm immediately thrown into disarray about his critique.

    ^this

Looking at my old Erector pieces, they have the word "meccano" stamped on them.

I think it also boils down to bias. Many critics have to review everything from crime to action to drama and so forth, but more than often you get a bunch of in depth reviews of dramas and romantic comedies, then you get to a sci-fi movie and its a blunt, short review.
For example, in our local rag the movie critic reviewed a bunch of films.
He gave deep reviews on cinematography, style, acting, ambience, etc.
then he came to 'Silent Hill' and just wrote:
"A confusing and blood thristingly gorey video game adaptation with no clear resolution. Remember DOOM?" - that is unacceptable. I wrote a letter of complaint but never got a reply. They just 'don't like it', or 'don't get it' and they just spout effortless garbage.

If you're in the Philipines, I wouldn't expect you to know this stuff, not out of ignorance, just from the sake of geography. It's a regional thing.

I reckon most British adults will be quite familiar with Meccano and the Ascot races, and various other references, and thus be able to follow it. FT is a British paper, somewhat equivalent to the Wall St Journal.

But the review is rather clumsy and not particularly well written. Though I did like this part:

For me, that line says it all about the writer. Ya, everyone who loves this movie is an immature child trapped in the body of an adult.
