This was found posted on Michael Bay's forums:
This should be worrying news to the movie supporters cause this means that he didn't do research before going into directing this film...
Boy, you can twist ANYTHING negatively, can't you?
You're reaching there. It just means he didn't expect that many people to view the trailer. That it got more views than SpiderMan 3 should be surprising to us, not just to him.
I found this part the most interesting:
I don't know, honestly I didn't know there was this much interest in the movie - it's nuts!
nope! just being realistic that's all.
I know how much research you have to do before going to direct a film.
so not knowing how many transformers fans there are, will make it a bad film to you?
that doesn't mean he didn't research. i mean, where do you find that information at? we are in the fandom, and i bet no one here expected it to be watched that much.
and just how many films have you directed?
Haters will see this as proof that Michael Bay underestimated the fanbase, and should have kept Transformers more true to past incarnations.
Lovers will see this as proof that Michael Bay knows exactly what he's doing.
Ask yourself this question: Which one of those would actually result in record download numbers?
My wife has been very negative about the movie thus far (she is negative about TFs in general) and I was talking to her on the phone as I read this thread, when I told her about it she said, "All that means is there are far too many geeks in the world."
Estimating how many fans there are would be the job of Hasbro, the studio, and the producers, not the director. That's all on the business end of things. The director's job is to oversee the performance, filming, and editing, etc. Besides all that, there are no really reliable estimates of how many fans there are, and there's no indication how much of a "fan" someone had to be in order to view the trailer. This is something that Michael Bay could not and would not need to know.
Hmm, well everyone is a geek its just to what extent (-_-)^
what is he talking about with die hard?
I was wondering that. I guess he welcomes the competition?
I guess he wants Die Hard to be released on the 4th because he thinks Transformers is gonna whoop it's ass. -and as much as I fall into the "supporter" camp I'm not real sure that's what would actually happen.
Actually I beleive die hard got set back to compete better with TF the movie... I think
Yeah, I guess he is saying that this movie will kick get rich's ass. I just hopes that is does as good at the box office as it did on the internet.
Hmm I thought this was posted awhile ago. Oh well interesting then as it is now
I was thinking that he is very confident in the movie, and wants to prove it's worth by directly taking on another big name movie and still succeeding. Then you really can't take anything away from Transformers if it comes out #1, but if it comes on top without opening against Die Hard, then it's like "Well it only succeeded because Die Hard didn't open the same day".
Or something like that I am guessing...But I'm probably wrong.
Bay has his haters.
Whooping Die Hard will silence them.
