We have heard about the best, the worst, the prettiest and the red headed step-children...
but what game was so painfully hard that you almost destroyed a pc or a console over?

personally, i am like a D-minus grade player,
so my humble opinion would make you mock me.
(i did manage to beat both Jackal and Gunsmoke on the NES, so...should i be happy to admit that?)

so let the cursing and gnashing of teeth begin. tell us which games you thought satan designed with you in mind.

okay, here are a couple that i hated:
The Adventures of Batman and Robin- SNES
Any game with a "escort and protect" mission

Rocket Ranger for the NES. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, and it was painful for me.

It wasn't until years later that I realised it was just a shitty game.

Right now for me it's SSX Blur for Wii. Even though I tend to get a pretty good score, I have no mastery of the controls.

But for just hard games, any game that has 3 lives or 1 hit kills. I don't learn my lessons easily, I'd rather take the damage than the death :(

    X-men for the Genesis.

It was around the middle of the game that I realized this was a lot more like work than it was like fun. (Wolverine loses his energy on his "mutant bar" because his claws are out?")

Being the idiot that I am, I stuck it out until I beat it.

Those three tiny static screens were sure worth it. :thumb

TFTMTG, not overall hard, but some missions had me pissed and almost wanting to throw the controllers at the TV

    OMG -I can't believe I forgot that.
I actually did throw my controller after I was Megatronand I couldn't find Prime the third time he ran away 12 times in a row.

It might not have been that hard, but every time you touch a building Megatron would transform back into a robot, and you coyldn't fly higher than the buildings. Yeah, I definitely beat that one for the love of Transformers, cuz it hella sucked.

I loved privateer. Put in enough time at the start, before you tackle the plot missions, and you can build yourself a fighter that'd make Col. Blair cream his Confed-issue jeans. But the asteroids... I swear those things move to intercept you. I played through it again a couple years ago and I had to hack the game to beat the last set of asteroid levels. :banghead:

I was young and didnt comprehend the game too well. I knew I could go to places, do my missions but I didnt understand so much about the ships, so throughout like half the story I was flying the 1st ship you get.

One of these days I'll back and finish it.

    .....

Now that I think about it, I'll just go home, find my CD and FINISH IT, so... Possibly no COD4 for me tonight :p

    Battletoads. Definitely.

As a kid I beat several games that were considered pretty hardcore like Jackal, Metal Gear, TMNT, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, etc.

But that stupid level in Battletoads with the hoverbike or whatever just about reduced me to tears.

There are some games I just flatout couldn't beat, and generally that means I didn't like them enough to stick with them. However, some of the most difficult games I played and actually stuck with and beat are probably Kid Chamealeon for the Genesis and Ninja Gaiden on Xbox (on normal even). Also, one of the my biggest self video game achievements would have to be beating Super Street Fighter 2 on the SNES with Ken on the highest difficulty without losing a match. So many times I would get to Bison or Vega and lose!

Oh, I also don't like games that spring the difficulty up out of nowhere at the end. Namely, Metroid Prime. I love the game, but most of it wasn't too bad until you get to Prime itself. Besides the annoyingness of the save point being kinda far away from him, he had several forms, and each one on it's own would have been sufficient, but damn, all the 3 took quite a few tries to beat.

Home Alone 2 (I know, I know) for the Gameboy. I couldn't get off the first level, I thought it was because the game was incredibly difficult. I later discovered that it was just a purely shit level design.

When I sold my original GB years ago, I was testing all my carts, and I STILL couldn't figure out the first level in that game. Like McCully Caulkens career that game was shit.

Athena for the NES. it was practically impossible. it was painfully bad. it was practically impossible in part because it was painfully bad. and yes, i tortured myself into beating it. it only took the better part of an entire year from my recollection. games like ninja gaiden and ghosts n goblins were cakewalks in comparison because they actually had good controls.

Any game with the word "mega" followed there after by the word "man." Some of those games just get ridiculous. I love them, but man...

Yeah, the Mega Man games were brutal. The Mega Man X games redefined the word "hard".

    Lock-On Modern Air Combat,

The main menu's "music" is ****en annoying! It's like a bad rythum of alarm clocks. I can understand what it's trying to do but... GAH, and it repeats!

Also, I'll be taking off the runway in my A-10 Thunderbolt II, flying for 5 minutes (with the time acceleration on too), I'll get ready to attack and "bring the rain" and LULZ, LOCK-ON error!

Okay fine, I deal with uno lock up. I fly my A-10, shooting down a Mig-31 with a sidewinder (cause Im badass), attack and do damage to the armored convoy, get my wing damage and the right rudder is in peices. So, I fly back to base struggleing with a plane that insists crashing. I land the plane safely but NOPE, Lock-On locked up! Yippie! (True story, even the Mig-31 killing part)

Yeah, I gotta agree about X-Men. I could never defeat Mojo and gave up there.

    Others for me,

Tiger Heli for the NES. Just because the game never ended!

Iron Tank also for the NES.

Sonic for the Gamegear. I could never get past the first boss.
