Does anyone here have or used to have any mental illnesses or disabilities?

Earlier this year, my folks have been asked by my phsyciatrist if I have Autism. Fortunatley, I don't have it since I don't show many signs of it but I'm not sure if I have any other mental illness.

ADHD and slight OCD. I say slight because i get urges to say, straighten a lampshade, but can easily walk away from it.

And watch all those people with Aspergers crawl out of the woodwork into this thread.

    A shrink once said I was a 24-carat psychopath.

Well, at least then you'd be far too soft and pure to be of any real danger... or weigh only 120 grams, which I guess would also not be too bad for everyone else.

I find it irritating how every little 'quirk' has to have a title or is a symptom for a supposed condition. .
Remember when ADD was 'daydreaming', or OCD's were neat-freaks?
Aspergers seems to be way too all-inclusive as well.
    Yeah, good times...

We Asians usually beat disorders out of our kids. (J/K)

My dad was diagnosed a few months ago with paranoid schizophrenia and is currently getting treatment in a live-in clinic. Hopefully the treatment will help but I'm not holding my breath.

I might have aspergers, or I might not and it's just ADD mixed with anxiety issues. I can still function socially. I have really shit motor skills though. I'm still working on getting my driver's license and my test is next month.

Maybe this was brought on from getting several concussions when I used to play football, and when I was two years old I nearly split my head open. I wouldn't doubt it. I regret playing football, and every other sport my parents signed me up for. Wish I could have taken some art lessons, or learn how to play an instrument instead.

    A.D.D. = Apathetic Day Dreamer

I pretty much fit the bill for that. :lol

Personally I'm starting to think this is just all over-categorization or some crap. If I can't focus in a class, it's due to several reasons

    1. There is no sunlight and the day outside looks like shit
    2. The teacher isn't very good at teaching
    3. It's too damn early in the fucking morning

I would give up summer vacation completely if we got Fridays off and school started later in the day. I know there are some schools in the U.S. who do that.

One of my father's cousins has schizophrenia, he fully believes he is a member of the Masonry [he isn't, really], and has the habit of saying prophecies that don't make a nick of sense [like "And the man with a tooth on his throad shall free the world from its sin" = WHAT THE HELL is that supposed to mean?]

The poor soul never shows up at family meetings, in fact, I've barely seen him, he is a very reserved individual [besides, y'know, being insane].

One of my mother's sisters also had a Near Death Experience and has since acquired an obsession with religion. I don't know if it is a mental ilness precisely, but her mind once distorted reality [fully believing that a Priest had paid her treatment, when it was actually her sisters], I think it was more of a one-time thing than anything.

In a less weird note, It was once theorized [by a friend of my family] I possess Bipolar Disorder, Schizoid personality disorder or Schizotypal Personality disorder, but it has never been proved.

Same goes for my father, it is often said he has some mental disorder due his temper [The Incredible Hulk is freaking Buddha compared to him], but I think it's all bullshit.

    ADD, anxiety issues, and...

Aspergers. A little bit. The attitude about it in this thread is kinda asshole-y...

my son is autistic. This is his first year in a regular school/class
Plus being a teacher I have quite a few autistic kids in my choir classes.
What do you want to know?
Can I ask what specific qualities you have that made your parents think you are autistic?

Don't think anything I have can be clinically diagnosed, but I do have adult form of ADD, and I suffer from depression from time to time.

Dyslexia. I overcame the issue and took responsibility of myself. I don't use it as a excuse or crutch for my actions like a lot of people here that so called have mental issues.
