Little informal poll. I just had someone call out that the spelling of "Menasaur" as incorrect. I did not know this. I have been in this fandom for 20 years, and I never once realized that "Menasor" is the preferred spelling. Nor have I ever had anyone correct me. I am now very confused. Is this another case of the Mandela Effect?

Which do you use? Which is correct? Menasaur or Menasor?

Menasor isn't the preferred spelling... it's just the correct way to spell it... any other spelling is simply wrong

Eh. I'd just spell it Menasor since that's how it's been spelled in the past...even though, to be frank, Menasor was never exactly my favorite TF name, just because even when I was a kid it always still sounded like the Stunticons should be combining to form a T-rex or something of the like.
Which, come to think of it, actually would have been more awesome than yet another humanoid gestalt form.

    This.

But I'd be okay with Menasaur if Menasor gained a dinosaur beast mode, in the same wayUltra Magnus changed his name to Ultra Mammoth. Otherwise Menasaur just looks a stupid word. There is no Mandela effect here.

Menasor because Menasor is a Bad ass Combiner, unlike the nonexistant trash that Menasaur is.

Some people prefer to spell Menasor's name the official way. Y'know, the same way Hasbro and its licensees do.

    MenasorSpelling.jpg

Others prefer to spell it incorrectly.

Or, to put it differently, if you see someone use the spelling "Menasaur", someone spelled it incorrectly. Just like some people write "Devistater", "Skorpinok", "Optimas Prime", "Roadimus Prime" or "Lazerbeak" (assuming they're not discussing the rarely mentioned Beast Wars character Lazorbeak).

That's not a "preference". One is correct, the other isn't.

The reason why you've never been corrected on it before is probably because yes, a lot of people spell it incorrectly (I've also seen the variant "Menosaur" more than once), and those who do know better don't want to get called spelling nazis.

As funny as it sounds dont put in there the instruction leaflets and the boxes for official references, because according to the g1 box Grimlock is the bommander of the Dinobots and the Onslaught leaflet says that they form the mighty Defensor :p

Don't always rely on the packaging to tell you stuff.
But it is damn correct in most cases.

G1 Grimlock's packaging correctly calls him the "Commander".
There is an infamous counterfeit (bootleg/knockoff) that can be identified by the misspelling "Bommander", but that's not an official Hasbro release even if it pretends to be!

The only G1 toy I'm aware of where the spelling of the character's name is all over the place is Hun-Gurrr. To quote TFWiki:
I haven't referred to the packaging art at all!

Besides, I'm referring to every goddamn use of the name ever on Hasbro toy packaging. There are half a dozen instances of "Menasor" between 1986 and 2016, and not a single instance of "Menasaur".

And since this was apparently inspired by people wondering about the spelling of the name of RID combiner...

Hm...Well at any rate, I would bother to check mine bought back in the day, problem is mine was bought in Japan so the box wont help much.

At any rate mistakes in spelling in boxes and instructions were common in the day back then.

That's why I created a collage of the names of all Menasor toys (G1 Stunticons single releases, G1 giftset, European 1990s Classic Stunticon reissue single releases, 2007 Classic Legends, Titanium Series, Combiner Wars Stunticon single releases, Combiner Wars G2 giftset), as well as the Marvel Transformers Universe and Dreamwave More Than Meets The Eye profiles, not just the G1 version!

Menasaur sounds kinda cool, but the toy is named Menasor. This is the same Hasbro, that renamed Groundpounder and Minitron in the toyline yet didn't call them the names the trademark issues would allow in the cartoon.

Menasor has always been the correct spelling for the Stunticon combiner

Pity. For a hot second I wanted my custom title to be "Supreme Bommander." I would be the exploding salamander above all other exploding salamanders.

"menasor" is for the stunticon combiner
"menasaur" should be for a beast combiner equivalent of the stunticons
"menasir" is a gentleman that deserves more acknowledgement
"menasore" is required to be treated by the local doctor

    i hope this was helpful!
