    A Botcon 2011 Bingo Story

Bingo at Botcon - yes that old person's game with balls and daubers - was awesome. A group of us parked ourselves there by default after our dining tables were automatically converted to bingo tables. It became a wise decision when the prizes were laid out, most notable a Shattered Glass Rodimus (cha-ching!).

The game worked like this: you got a free bingo sheet every round, but you could always buy additional sheets to play at any time to increase your odds. They would announce the prize at the start, and you could adjust how many cards you would play with that way. There was a ridiculous number of strategies to employ - hoarding cards for big prizes (noob), marking cards with coins/paper instead of daubing (not-so-noob) to memorizing rainman style (pro).

From our group, we had one guy go up twice for bingo tie breakers and lost both times :(  There was also the husband and wife who went up in a tie beaker with two other people (4 way bingo tie!), and the wife beat everyone out for her first transformer ever! And just watching one of the guys in our group *try * to use 10 bingo cards at the same time was amusing (it's too fast, TOO FAST, announce it SLOWER). Not to mention that Japanese guy who mis-bingo-ed ... TWICE!

But the highlight of the night was when one in our group, playing only a single bingo card, hit bingo in only 9 balls drawn (it might have been 8, my memory is hazy) - the quickest win of the night. Right before the win, I heard him mutter, "oh-shit, I only need one more", and the next ball was the winner. It was epic and the crowd went wild, RAH RAH RAH. The reward for such a triumphant achievement?

    A Vector Sigma Ball.
    Best. Prize. Evah.

The winner? Our very own CookSux who gathered his prize with a flourish taking a bow. BTW, anxiously awaiting your indepth review.

The "Hey I'm half caucasian half asian" guy at the bar. Let's just say I saved my Kabayas from a beer bath.

I missed out on Hella Tacos... I think going to ihop with Tony, Super_Megatron, and Kickback at 5am was pretty crazy... only in the sense that I drove back home afterwards. My girlfriend gave me a whole mess of shit that night and wouldn't let me sleep until 8am.

My memorable moment was looking for venksta on friday hoping to be done with buying his custom set and ended up searching for him on saturday all day with no success. I didnt plan on going to botcon on sunday but I decided I really wanted that custom set so after a few hours of searching for him again, I finally found him waiting in line for an autograph. Finally! So i go home and open up the set to find that it is missing the one piece i would use. Sigh..... but good thing venksta is an awesome guy, he's shipping the missing piece to me!

I'm gonna piggy-back on your favorite memory as that was the same night my little cousin won the game with '05 Ratchet. She was presented with cash almost immediately for her prize and I was very touched when she handed it to me and said "Happy Birthday!". She was the only one from our 2 tables that won anything that night. It was the first Botcon for her and my aunt and they fell in love with the atmosphere. That Ratchet will hold a very special place in my collection ~ that is for sure!

Standing in the registration line. Very memorable! By the time the night was done, I had memorized the carpet pattern and the faces of everyone around me, counted all the dots on the ceiling tiles, sung "99 bottles of beer on the wall" for about 3,758 bottles, watched my fingernails grow, broke the world thumb-twiddling record, etc etc. It's an experience I'll treasure forever.

    But seriously...

-The Grimlock-off! We had joked before the con that Berger and Kaye should do something like this, and I was thrilled that they actually made it happen. I love that the actors are willing to get silly and do fun things.

-The script readings in general. Awesome. I'm so glad that most of the Prime cast was able to come.

-Seeing the Prime panel's reaction when someone mentioned loving what they've done with Soundwave. Several of the guys up there looked at each other, grinned, and made "yes!" type gestures. It really made me realize that the people making the cartoons truly want to make the fans happy. That moment really sticks in my head. I wanted to hug them. <3

-Getting hit on by an extremely drunk guy at the TFW meetup. Transformers + beer = crazeeeee.

-Michael Bay walking right past me in the theater on HOF night. I was in the aisle seat, and he walked within a foot and a half of me on his way out. I don't personally like the man, but that's probably the closest I'll ever be to a famous person.

-And of course, hanging out with the cool people I was rooming with! Being surrounded by fellow TF fans is the best part of Botcon. It sucks to come back home and resume a mundane life where giant robots are considered weird.

And two things that didn't happen to me, but I got a kick out of seeing happen to other people:

-Morgan Lofting interacting with a cosplayer dressed as the Baroness. The girl didn't know who Morgan was at first, and it was a trip when she found out. That had to be a memorable moment for her.

-And just as the con was ending, I saw Aaron Archer walk past a group of fans sitting on the floor. One of the girls said hi and waved as he walked by, and he took off his badge and tossed it to her. She was...happy to say the least. So one lucky fan got to go home with Aaron Archer's badge. :rock

    Best Moments!

We loved the script reading of the Animated Stunti-con-job!
Having The voice actors bring this year's theme to life was one of my favorite moments from the last few years.

One memorable moment was when a buddy of mine won Scorch in bingo and then a few games later a different friends wife won Alpha Trion. Seems like I'll always remember bingo nights.
