Today is Mel Blanc's 100th Birthday.

I just wanted to publicly honor the man who has added so much humor -so many smiles to my life and has greatly shaped my sense of humor.

His work is influencing my children as well thanks to Boomerang and the various DVD collections.

My little girl is three years old and she can recite some of the Looney Tunes.
Every time I hear her say "Da Sout Pole? Oooh I'm dying!" I get lifted up inside. :)

I read his autobiography as a kid. I loved the man, and my grandfather brought me up on looney tunes cartoons. so much so that when my grandfather would speak, he would often use intentionally wrong words that bugs bunny used, except I thought that was what they really were. imagine my surprise when I found out that the bird was spelled "pigeon" instead of "pidigeon".

aside from doing the robot's voice on Buck Rogers back in the day, all of his work was high art.
for a man who hated carrots, he gnawed on enough to keep the world laughing till doomsday.

I miss that style of animation/comedy.
as much as Freakazoid!, Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures and a couple other shows tried, they are just poor imitations of the Old Skool and the masters.
    miss ya, Mel.

Truly the greatest voice actor ever. Not just for his range of voices, but for the way he brought the characters to life and entertained so many around the world for so many years, and continues to do so even after his death.

There'll never be another like him.

Mel Blanc is the guy that inspired many of the voice actors who in turn inspired many of today's modern crop.

I think his immortality is practically assured at this point. :D

Ha-Ha! My siblings and I quote that all the time! That, and "Of Course you realize, this means war!" and Daffy's "Its mine you understand?! Mine, mine, mine! Down, Down, Down! Out, out, out!"

I'm not even sure Mel Blanc did those last two quotes (forgive my ignorance), but that just cracks us up.

Chuck Jones' WB shorts are outstanding.

Blanc was an amazing VA, I'm even got his "Speachless" lithograph as a kid. My love of animation and voice acting grew largely out of the old WB shorts.

My nephew's name is Hassan. We're all actually pretty sick of hearing that line.

A scientist made a study of Mel's vocal cords to try and figure out why he could do so many different voices.
    (warning: pretty gross actually)

That would never happen to anybody but Mel Blanc.

Mel was great. It's a shame warner brothers killed the looney tunes for this generation by removing it from tv along with pink panther, popeye, yogi bear, and others.

Someone even wrote about this in a article called "daddy who's bugs bunny?"

I never understood why they were scrubbed from TV. They are not going to make money by removing it from TV and saying 'buy DEEVEEDEES!'

The joy of looney tunes is no matter when they come on, they are always fun to watch. Like old tom and jerry. It still makes me pause and watch on Cartoon network.

He was awsome. It's sad you can't see all the looney tunes stuff on regular tv anymore. We need more people like Mel Blanc, Chuck Jones and Tex Avery. They made some of best cartoons ever.
