Whereas most Decepticons appear to dislike humans or disregard them, Megatron really does hate humans. I mean, why even bother? Unless...

The whole reason he started the war in the first place and wanted to take control of the All Spark was so he could raise an army to exterminate any form of organic life. Perhaps Optimus Prime associated with smaller lifeforms in the universe and offered them protection, something his brother hated.

I think that would make a heck of a lot of sense in a sequel.

I think he just wanted the Allspark. Anyone who got in his way would be destroyed.

Of course, crashing on Earth wasn't in the plans, and that led to humanity excavating him and imprisoning him, then using his body to make their cool technology. I'd be pissed too if some fleshbags were scavenging me for parts and stuff while I was still alive.

He's the A-Hole that you just love to hate. That's what makes a good Megatron. He'd hate his own mother for giving birth to him. If he had a mother.

Megatron was the only Decepticon in the movie with any sort of personality at all. And even at that it was thin. He was basically a chunk of rock that got zapped by Allspark lightning and developed a god complex.

Not entirely. I think that Starscream with the 4 lines he had in the movie, which counts that gibberish he said on the dam and in addition the Wuss out manuver at the end of movie, I think his personality was shown.

Perhaps, but notice how when Optimus and Megatron meet for the first time in years, their debate immediately turns to whether humanity deserves a place in the universe. It's as if this is yet another rebuttal in an old argument. Creating an army isn't necessarily the same as extermination too: humanity could just as easily enslaved.

Wasn't Megatron conscious and aware of what was going on the whole time the humans had him?

That would go a long way in explaining why he hated humanity so much.

Indeed, but that's one answer that could just be part of the overall reason.

Wasn't it stated in the prequel novel that Megatron briefly 'defrosted' in the 1960s? It could be argued that he had a certain resentment toward the species that imprisoned him for so long. Also, I expect he would view organic life as 'inferior' to any mechanoid species.

Don't be ashamed, I lost faith in most of humanity a long time ago.

I'd think pretty lowly of a specie held together by protein strands too, if I were a 'Con. It's almost like how most people think of insects as pesky, and harbour disgust/ resentment for them.

And yes, being held prisoner by such a lowly race, milking you of your superior abilities doesn't make you love them any more.
