It seems to me that most of the first waves of G1 were damn near replicas of the diaclone/microman stuff, right? Barring occasional color changes that is. Why is that Megatron recieved very noticable alterations from his Takara source? The fists and the head (especially) being the most recognizable differences, but IIRC there are others. As most here are aware I'm sure, even some of the early TF promotional art on some boxes and other stuff still depicted the black headed, different sculpted head for Megs. I believe my elementry school lunch box had that one too.

Anyway, why all the big changes for him?

Maybe there were mold errors between the first and second run?

I'm looking at a picture of Microman MC13 UNCLE and G1 Megatron standing next to each other.

This is Draven's pic from his thread when he bought MC13

Umm, I can't really see any differences there.

If I recall correctly (can't check because the TF wiki is now blocked at work for some reason, grrrr), I think the reason for the different look in early promotional material is due to the artist basing the model on an unproduced GunRobo concept which I guess they were considering using as Megatron before deciding on the MC13 UNCLE version.

Yeah, the UNCLE gun that eventually became the Megatron toy wasn't a retool of the black-headed fella in the promo material - it's an entirely different design.

Well, that's the original design. I don't think the figure itself was ever produced, as Aussiehippy said. I'm not sure if that particular pic is a CGI mock-up or what, though.

There might have been a proto of it? Dunno, if there was I've never seen it.

I do agree that it looks better than what we got, hehehe. Although I love my TFC Megatron.

Right on... that clears that up! I thought the black helmeted one was the MicroMan toy, but apparently not.

    Thanks ALL!
