Here's a little something I whipped up this morning. Took an hour I guess. Just a quick sketch (20 mins) using reference from a few different takes on Megatrons (toys, cartoon, and comic pics), a little marker (20 mins) and some photoshop (another 20mins)

I just felt like playing around a little with the Megatron Movie design that was leaked. Basically wanted to flavor the design with a few Classic callouts that I thought would help make it seem "more Megatron". I wanted to try and add just a hint of color to evoke some G1 love (red wires in the arms and sides, colored lights on the guts). To be perfectly honest, my take may be way too retro for a lot of people's taste. I did want to try and keep as much of the original leaked pic as possible, but add some more armor plating, a feature that I hope may be addressed by the studio on any tweaks they have to all the robot designs. There are a lot of nice shapes in the movie Megatron. Too many, really. I may have gone too far in the other direction. I hope this looks a bit more transformable, whether it be into an alien tank or jet.

By no means do I declare "I've solved the Megatron delima!". It's just a few ideas I thought I'd put to paper to see what came out. Feel free to share your thoughts. I value your input. Thanks for taking a look!

You've accomplished in one hour what the movie designers couldn't in months.
And it's not too retro for me, it's perfect. Very nice. :thumb

"Perfect" is quite a stretch, but thank you.

it looks great man, but it just wouldn't translate into film very well, thats why they went the route they did.

Nice work! All the movie design needs is some bulkier pieces of armor plating to set off certain body parts and give it some large sections over the "jumpsuit" look. Your version doesnt look naked like the other.

If definitly isn't perfect, but why wouldn't something similar work fully rendered and animated on screen? Just curious.

I disagree; I think that would translate very well into the alternate mode they chose for Megatron.

Fantastic work, dude. Here's hoping we see something more along those lines for the movie.

I think Hasbro and the movie studio heard the people unhappy with the designs pretty load and clear. I hope there's a Megatron onscreen we can recognize more clearly.

Again, my take may be a tad too far in the past, but something inbetween would be nice, in my opinion. It doesn't take too much to make all the movie designs look more like transformers. Larger areas of armor plating without going totally retro is the key, I think.

    Thanks!

Good job. I'd be much happier with this design.

I won't hold my breath though.

Not too retro at all. The studio should have you as one of its designers. :thumb

I meant he was not too "Retro", and the balance between him and the new movie Megs is perfect Imo.

    Cool. Thanks again!

Here's an updated version on my take.

Tried to tone down the "cartoony" parts on my original, like the face and "belly lights". Hope it's an improvement!

Not bad, but the chest needs to look stronger and more solid, too.

Also edit out the "unnecessary" details.

Well its great work, I’m not personally keen on that look for meg’s but it's still light years better than the movie one.

If you are going to redo some of the other TF's Starscream needs some serious help.
