I heard a song today called "Megatron Man" By Patrick Cowley. It is from 1981 which pre-dates the Transformers by 3 years. I wonder if this is where Hasbro got his name from.:music

Hasbro got his name from a combination of "Megaton" and "Electronic". It had nothing to do with a song.

Actually Hasbro didnt come up with the name "Megatron" at all.

Bob Budiansky, at the time of Marvel Comics, came up with the name.

Indeed. In fact, Hasbro was originally unsure of the name, thinking it sounded too evil and destructive... until Budiansky pointed out that was the idea. Hasbro was like, "Oh, right".

As pointed out, Megatron isn't an original name. It was used by Marvel comics and even in a kids storybook as the name of the evil computer before the TF as well. Heck most TF names were used before as well for something.

In all fairness, alot of Transformer names are mechanical parts, etc. ;)  but you have a point.

Megatrons name has also been heard in an old bass song from the album called, The Bass That Ate Miami.

Was the name "Optimus Prime" ever used before Transformers? I didn't know about the whole Megatron thing, so maybe it happened to Optimus too.

I just thought that it was funny that the song was released 3 years before the cartoon. That's all
