I know that I'm asking this kinda late, but where did this whole Megatron having a rust disease business come from?
He was weaker, and had a rusty ALT mode, but him himself didn't look like a rusty POS, like Ironhide.
    Megatron wasn't rusting at all.
So does anyone know how that thing started?

Well, considering even Ironhide was concerned about canine urea rusting his foot, it's safe to assume that not ALL of that rust was from Megatron's alt. mode disguise, especially considering the lackluster condition of the rest of his body.

And I suppose you could think of rust as a kind of tissue-necrosis for Cybertronians, so it's not exactly unreasonable to say he was afflicted with some kind of "rust disease."

Although something like "rust infection" might be more accurate.

Wait what? He had a rust disease in the old "Cosmic Rust" episode of G1 (which were they got the initial idea for Sentinel's rust weapon.) but this is the first I've heard of people thinking he had some disease in the film.

It was part of his disguise like how Bumblebee was all beaten up looking and had a smoky engine due to his alt mode being an old junker early in the first film, but it shouldn't have affected his actual health.

You do know that he spent some time thousands of feet under SALT water?

As far as the truck alt. mode, that's because the truck was rusty.

It was probably part of his disguise. Though you could also say it reflected his current state of mind.

    I have a "theory"

Megatron was badly injured in ROTF, in result for that and the lack of Doctors, his wound got rusted, same in us when we are in a different enviroment and a open wound gets infected

    No.
They don't rust due to wounds.

Scanned a rusty truck. Case closed. (Also, not that prequel stuff is cannon, but Megatron was shown scanning a rusty, beat up truck in the game)

I see it more as a possible reference to the G1 Episode Cosmic Rust.

It's silly to assume that ALL his rust was merely from his alt. mode disguise when, as I've pointed out before, he was submerged in saltwater for years and indeed even IRONHIDE had concerns about rust from the urine of Sam's chihuahua...this at a time when Ironhide was in MUCH better shape than Megatron in THIS movie, of course.

He's even still sporting wounds from 2-3 years before and has himself partially held together by chains!

And, yes, wounds WOULD be susceptible to rust just like any damaged tissue would be with infections. Cybertronians don't even need injuries to rust, so any weak and newly-exposed portions of their biology would be problem areas for that sort of thing.

You might also recall Jetfire himself pointing out that dwindling Energon levels will make Cybertronians oxidize and rust with time, and Megatron clearly wasn't getting any healthier in a big hurry.

So, yes, Megatron was plainly rusting on his own in addition to whatever "rust" was simply part of his disguise, just like he did between the first and second films.
