I had been racking my brain for somthing I could turn into a decent alternator-esq Megatron, and nothing realy fit the bill. I could have made him into another vehicle, but I REALY wanted him to be a Hummer. It may or may not match up in vehicle mode, but I found where someone had a pic of Ratchet next to bt rodimus, and he looked pretty comperable in scale, in fact almost a head taller. Since the Mirage mold stands the same height as Prime, I figured movie Ratchet would make a good Megs counterpart to alt Prime. I may try to give him real alt hands if I can get ahold of an extra alt I dont care for. For the head, I dont have a clue what I'm going to do, classics megs is not an easy one to come by now, I may end up having to attempt to sculpt a helmet and eyes around some kind of genaric action figure head. As for the arm cannon, vehicle mode, and how to make it some kind of combat Humvee, Ill wory about that when its in my hands. Also, I have a few questions for anyone who got him early; Is the front guard detachable, and if not, how is it held on? I may deside to give it the axe. And are there any pics of Ratchet next to alt Prime in vehicle and/or robot mode?
I have a suggestion should you go through with this kitbash... One complaint I have with this Ratchet figure is his extremely short waist and torso. Considering that as a movie design, he has sort of a weird bug-like feeling, the short waist doesn't really affect him that much...but with a more conventional Transformer head, it becomes more noticeable. I would suggest that rather than place the Megatron exactly where Ratchet's head is, instead leave the black hatch in place (the undercarriage of the hummer, which flips open to reveal Ratchet's head). This makes his upper body larger. Instead mount the Megatron head somewhere on this hatch (or slightly inset). It'll give him more traditional proportions, rather than having Megatron's head set somewhere lower than his shoulders. Also, it will make him a bit taller, so he'll dominate the other Alternators with a bit more authority. I wish I had a digibash of what I'm talking about, but it's kind of hard to find pics online to work with that have Ratchet transformed, but with the hatch still covering his head. Just a thought. zmog
I'd definately buy that as a Megatron, I think it works fine. Though 'normal' hands would do wonders for it. As for the cannon, I'm sure you could make a turret style thing that attaches to the top of the hummer in truck mode and can be moved to the arm in bot.
WHY are you comparing an out-of-scale movie figure, to the 1:24 SCALE Alternators figures? If he (Ratchet) truly was in scale with the Alternators, he'd be about three to four heads taller! As for the picture in question, would it have been this? If you look closely, you'll notice that Ratchet is a BIT forward from where KP Hot Rodimus is. He's still taller when side-by-side, but just a bit. I also just don't FEEL the Rescue/Emergency Hummer H2 is a good fit for Megatron, especially the Movie Ratchet mold. You've got to fix his hands if you go forward with this project. The arm canon one is EASY. Just work the axe in Ratchet's hand to be a gun. The hand folds into the arm, and the canon comes out. BOOM!
Yep, thats it . Now I see why he looked the way he did. Thanks for pointing that out. Oh well, I guess I just wait and see what I think of him in hand. I may just go though with it for the heck of it. And where are the chinese over-sized KO-ers when they are needed?
Not much of a suggesstion but it might save you a lot of time painting if you use the G1 colored Ratchet variant.
Brilliant! A light grey dye job might help, but it would be more permanent than paint. A rescue hummer can be made to look military pretty easily. I say go for it. zmog
True. Just make a .50 caliber turret to mount on top, and to have the barrel removeable so it can be "added" to the arm cannon.
