It seems that in the G1 cartoons, Megatron never knew about Optimus Primes Matrix. It seems that till the 1986 movie came out, nobody knew about the Matrix. Then in season's three and four Galvatron was after Primes Matrix? Did I miss something in G1's season 1-2? Did Megatron ever knew about the Matrix? Or was it just never mentioned that he did know? Also, is there such a thing as a Decepticon matrix?
The Matrix wasn't even thought of until they wrote the movie. You can retcon the Matrix into seasons one and two, but there would still be some frakking big gaps.
Pretty much the above. Although in the comics the (Creation) Matrix came into things fairly early. Shockwave was sucking that shit right out of Optimus the moment he got his hand on him.
"The Matrix died with him" Megatron did not ask Unicron what the Matrix was. So yes he knew about it. He may not have known it's power yet
But at the same time he likely received a ton of new information from Unicron during the upgrade, so it's possible he was only able to make the connection after becoming Galvatron.
I view it as this: REALISTICALLY, the Matrix didn't exist until the movie. Thus, Megatron didn't know about it until it became part of the plot in the movie, then omg, he DOES know about it! But to make it work in G1 cartoon continuity - the POWER of the Matrix wasn't revealed until TF:TM, thus any type of desire for it was non-existant, as far as anyone knew, it was just some sort of relic until it destroyed Unicron and turned Hot Rod in to Rodimus Prime. Then it became like ecstacy for Transformers.
The matrix was handled much better in Flint Dille's story treatment for the movie. Optimus discovers the matrix while trying to discover the origin of the Transformers. What could've been, since FFoD had better writing than the movie IMO.
We could have also had Blaster lead a resistance to the Decepticon invasion of Autobot City. Good news is the BiS sorta depcits it with Tracks,Warpath and Grappel fightinf Devastator,Lugnut, Rumble and frenzy.
