The toy is based on the Microman color scheme but with Japanese and US G1 Megatron accessories. The character is based on Machine Wars Megaplex.

For some reason, e-Hobby seems to like U.S. exclusive story fragments. They also set up a mini-bot repaint set as a G1/Go-Bots crossover of sorts.

Yeah, wasn't the Go-Bot set story loosely based on the idea that Go-Bots from both factions were covertly observing the situation on Cybertron or something?

Anyhow, yes, Megaplex the toy is based on a Proto-G1 version of the Megatron toy. The character comes from Machine Wars, where he was a repaint of the Megatron jet, and depicted as a clone of the Decepticon commander who would be swapped in to confuse the Autobots.

Wasn't Megaplex's color scheme, complete with no chrome, how Megatron was released in japan?

I think that was the general idea. They each had the name of a Go-Bot that had a similar alt mode to the mini-bot they were repainted from.

Close. It's actually the VS pack color scheme that was released with Prime
