Robots should be restricted to performing menial labor and hazardous tasks. Give them enough intelligence and we'll be slaves before we know it.

Or they might just go online and waste all their time on 4chan. :D

Honestly, as cute as this, I'm not sure what this is supposed to prove. The phrases spoken by the robot are obviously pre-programmed. While it's neat that it can distinguish between the voices of the three roboticists, it's not like it can actually understand what it's saying or what's being said.

I'm unsure whether to be impressed or not. Although I seriously doubt an exchange like this was actually scripted, it does still feel pretty clunky at times, in terms of demonstrating the robot's ability to maintain a conversation.

The way the robot is presenting dialogue is reminiscent of a lot of the more advanced chatbots out there - "You are discussing a generalized topic. I will now present my opinion about the generalized topic using wiki-driven specifics and opinions polled from the twitter cloud."

We've only seen a sliver of what this robot can do re: communication, so I'm not sure if it's using the same chatbot-style A.I. scripting...but picking out a key word and generating an internet-pooled "response" based on it does not a conversation partner make. Imagine if Dave Bowman asked Hal to open the pod-bay doors and Hal was like "There are several pod-bay door manufacturers in the continential United States and a few in Russia."

Agreed. It may not be scripted, but the responses are far from authentic.

Now, had the robot actually seen Roman Holiday and decided on it's own that Audrey Hepburn was gorgeous, then I'd be all about the killing with fire.

Oh, and slight LOLs with the engrish subtitles.

The ability to follow who is speaking is indeed, new and nice. But as has been mentioned, the actual replies are almost totally devoid of any actual meaning save for the single reply to the third guy that it was talking about movies with the first two.

I guarantee this thing would fail as hard as any chatbot if it had to follow an actual conversation.
