We all have heard the argument that the media can influence us negatively.
well, been watching movies lately and i see the trials and ordeals the characters are subjected to and have been thinking if seeing that affects our own scale measuring the value of life.
i know these things make up a good story, but i am just thinking out loud here.
is it a rational thought or am I being overly empathetic?

    You are being overly empathetic.

Human life isn't all that valuable anyway!

All I know is that you can't make anything too hot, because you can set the atmosphere on fire and destroy humanity.

    Fantastic Four told me so.

I think he is trying to say that life is starting to imitate art.

Contrary to popular belief, human life is cheap and has been so since the dawn of civilisation. 140-odd years of the moving image has done little to change that in either direction.

I'm still waiting for life to imitate Dali, melting clocks and elephants on stilts are going to be awsome.

any of you recall the Looney Tunes short with Daffy Duck being toyed with by an unseen animator? *turns out it was Bugs Bunny all along*

or think of "Last Action Hero" where the fictional character has to deal with everything being fake.

I was aiming for a serious discussion here. as in, as a kid, i read a lot of things and was allowed to watch horror movies. Guess what? I became numb and calloused. Fast Forward a few
years when i had a career in EMS.
i woke up and wasn't numb anymore.

i guess in a story that is well crafted, i really worry when i am not moved by what happens to them.
kinda like an emotional litmus test...

I the line of work like ours you really tend to get emotionally detached from things. I am not saying that this is good but it's also not bad.
