DAMNIT! I totally forgot that one! That show acts more like an episode of Star Trek though, kinda. There are mechs a plenty, their not as much of the story's focus compared to shows like Gundam or Escaflowne.

    My choices:

    i) Mobile Suit Gundam TV series - the granddaddy that started the "military" robot craze. While the animation can be dated, I enjoyed the characterization and some of the gloomy aspects of the show.

ii) Zeta Gundam. The TV series. The sequel to the above series and even more gloomier but definitely riveting to watch.

iii) Mobile Suit Gundam (movie series). Basically the same plot elements as the TV series but with a slightly different emphasis (focuses more on the New Type concepts) and some plot changes. For example, certain battle scenes are changed or ommitted.

iv) Char's Counterattack. The supposingly final conclusion to the feud between the main characters of Mobile Suit Gundam Ammuro and Char. It contains some of the best fighting scenes for "military" mecha for me.

    v) 00 Gundam. Exciting, fast paced and beautiful animation.

vi) Gurren Lagann. In terms of "Super Robot" action, it is probably the best I have even seen but I don't quite like season 2 though. Shan't post spoil it for those who never watch.

vii) Mazinkasier. Over the top, fun, silly! The battles in the final episode is pretty amazing and memorable for me.

Giant fail for Eureka seveN not making the list yet. One of the most exhilarating, whimsical, and spectacular mecha animes to come out in recent years, and one of the best soundtracks in all of anime.

On the other hand, more props to Gundam 00, Code Geass, and Vision of Escaflowne. Gurren Lagann needs no further mention. Also, giant recommendation for RahXephon, if you don't mind a thinker.

Yikes! I keep forgetting to watch E-7! I'm catching up on some of the older anime such as rewatching Hokuto No Ken etc! X)

Yeah you really can't go wrong with Eureka Seven. One of my favourites.

Eh, I'm not too big on E7. It's ok, but for some reason, I just can get myself to watch past the first several episodes. I have no idea what it is, but something is just off about it.

I'd add Dangaioh to the list as well :)

And when I first saw the thread title and author I REALLY pictured it as a personal ad:

"Haven't been in a mech series in ages but really could use the work. Professional attitude, can change into a truck, have my own equipment and available immediately! Call Xabungle! Group rates available with Iron Gear and Walker Galliar" :p

I've only seen a few like the OP, but I love them giant robots:

G Gundam. The black sheep of Gundam series, and yet, one of my favorites.
    "ERUPTING BURNING FINGERRRRRRRRRRR!"

Everyone's mentioned Gurren Lagann, so need I say more? The quotes and fights from that show will forever be burrowed into my mind (like a... drill?)

    And Code Geass for sure.

Probably the quirky, character-centric first half. Have you at least gotten to the debut of theEND yet? That'll at least give you an impression of the series' awesomeness.

The second half of the series really kicks things into epic territory. First half just lays groundwork, but in its own endearing sort of way.

That's the thing, though. I usually like that kind of stuff. I'll probably give it another shot, eventually.

Thanks to Dragonclaw for my new sig quote. Trying to fit the credit in the sig, but the quote alone takes up most of the allowed 4 lines.
Blue Gale Xabungle is one I have wanted to see, as I like the mecha designs - especially Iron Gear, a knockoff of whom I had as a kid.

So it's decided. After I finish GaoGaiGar, I rent Gurren Lagann to check it out. Definitely on the list to watch: New Getter Robo. Haven't decided on which Gundam to see yet, but I'm checking out the Gundam series thread as well.

Well its got Zombies, guns, tits and outrageous physics so Mecha would be all it needs to really reach some kind of Otaku Zenith.
