I think it's an idea that NO ONE here knows what they're talking about. With the exception of Peaugh, and he says it's actually kind of fun and isn't that intrusive. And let's face it, we have little reason to doubt his judgment.

good for decepticons but bad for autobots. for example megatron and shockwave looks great but prime and ironhide looks like crap.

Actually, some of the only places where Mech Tech has seemed to adversely affect the figure is with those characters who have already had a fantastic mold in the previous lines. The Voyager Prime looks like an oversized FAB but the existence of ROTF Leader Prime and BB OP make me don't mind at all, as I can save $20. Ironhide on the other hand is getting a nice upgrade mold wise even if the cannon is kinda goofy, remedied by the fact he can use older cannons. Shockers and Megs look great, as does the Dread. Starscream looks decent enough, but we still have the ROTF Leader, so it doesn't really matter. If Hasbro wants to experiment with Prime and Starscream, let them, the current versions are fantastic enough. At the very least, those characters who don't have "amazing" versions, like Ironhide and Skids, are getting a new mold where the Mech Tech isn't horribly obtrusive.

But the ROTF line was geared for both. This looks like it's been aimed ONLY at kids, and not collectors. ROTF serviced the needs of both groups.

Not sure. Some of them I like (Starscreams's, Megatron's), others I hate (Leader Bumblebee's), and some are okay (Dreads', Ironhide's.)

So, it can go either way. You can take them off of the toy, but the plugs in the vehicle mode are what worry me.

Sadly, I can't say I like what I've seen so far..but what I have seen the mech looks out of scale to the vehicle/bot. *shrugs*

I'm not bothered by it, I just think that it's an extention of what they tried to do with the automorph and the PCC line crossed with minicon weaponary. At least the transformations look simpler this time around, kids generally don't like toys that are too difficult to play with.

I'd say that's true to a certain extent, but even kids draw the line at shit concepts somewhere, otherwise Action Masters would have sold like hot cakes!

I will say this - the idea actually had potential. Execution? Not all that great. Personally, Megatron is the only one that are using it the best way (unless Shockwave is similar) - Megatron's arm cannon transforms into a larger arm cannon. Ironhide could have had proper arm cannons with buttons on the backs - press them, and one or two smaller guns flip out, or both guns could have two different configurations to combine to form a larger one.

All in all, the gimmick looks like it could be fun, but I just think that it'd have been better if they took their existing weapons and made little gimmicks with those.

Which reminds me - anyone remember that Trans-Scanning (or whatever it's called) gimmick from Movie 1? I'd like to see them do those again. I know the figures didn't look THAT great, but to me, that was an idea that had even more potential than Mechtech.

Then good thing that weapons that can combine isn't a shit concept. It's a pretty obvious thing that most action toylines should have to be honest.

For the movie it's not bad. ILM has enough talent to make the effects for it look nice. The concept of pop out weapons on cars has been around since the James Bond days so people are used to it. Plus it means that characters can now fight in vehicle mode which should add some action without always having to use the more expensive robot modes.

For a toy it's kind of bad. Mostly because they are just too darn large. Perhaps if they were smaller without the gimmicks built into the weapon they might look cool, but too many of them look like they were snagged from some other line and handed over like a gun for a 6" action figure given to a 4" action figure.

It's a shit idea, or a way for true collectors to save money. I wonder how much can I accomplish now that I won't be buying Transformers for the summer? :D ream:

Lolwut?! There has been no confirmation at this point that the individual weapons can combine. Also, I don't see how you can say that huge, obtrusive weapons are a "pretty obvious thing" and that all action toylines should have them.

If you're going to run all around the forum shitting about a gimmick you might at least learn it. The box says the weapons can combine and many weapons also got pegs on 'em that are compatible with the weapon handles, Starscream pics recently show him combining his two swords into an even bigger weapon.

And of course you can't see, look at how terribly written and hyperbolic the terms you use are. The same way you can say that jive, I can refer to 'em as cool poweful yet optional weapons, perfect for action toyline franchises that pack firepower, specially a movie where 10 explosions go off every minute, bigass weapons are just perfect for the warring robots, just compare ROTF and DOTM Skids, one got a barely reaching fist as gimmick and the other got a cool gun that transforms into a double barreled cannon. Much more attractive of a gimmick.

Actually, there has been. There are pictures of Skids with Megatron, Ironhide and his own weapons combined into an even bigger gun.

Ok, not going to get into an argument with you about it. I really don't care that much. Plus I don't really understand what you're on about now, so I'm just going to bow out without making a fuss. :)
