There's things I like about both, but I think I prefer HS's take overall.

 

Not bad! Front of the cab definitely looks better than DX9 -- which is somewhat surprising giving how accurate and great DX9's Seekers were in alt-mode. (Top and back of the cab is a slightly different story.) Bot-mode is pretty good, and if this were the only option I'd definitely be satisfied (personal gripes about size notwithstanding). But since it's not, I'll gripe! Mainly about the waist -- which strikes me as too narrow from the front and makes the figure look incomplete/unfinished from the side. Like, I know he's a robot and all, but shouldn't Optimus have a backside of some sort?

Actually, I disagree. From one of the first pics, showing off the Matrix:



We can see the empty space behind it, where there is now a little backpack module. This picture spurred many comments wondering if this figure would be as hollow from behind as some of their others.

I think they didn't release a pic of the back or truck mode sooner because the back wasn't done yet, and so Alt mode didn't look finished enough either.

When MFT decide to KO one of the Legends G1 Primes, I personally hope that this is the one they choose.

Maybe. Soundwave got a transparent chest, but BB, Ironhide and Ratchet have painted windows.
I am sure they will have multiple releases like Soundwave. If windows are separate pieces than chances are good one of those releases will have transparent windows.
