Sometimes animators do stuff like that when they're bored or finish early. They put some goofy stuff in the background that they think noone will catch on to, like a dog peeing on a hydrant, or giving a modern weapon to one guy in an army of WWI guys or something like that.

I'm guessing it's more like a directional/reference line that wasn't erased or removed when the cels were photographed.

Yeah thats what I thought, Mabye it was a guidline that wasnt erased...I find the concept that giant robots cant open a matrix only held together with string funny xD

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you on that. I think it's just a reference line the animators forgot to erase.

    Yeah, it's a reference line.

Ironically a show accurate one given how every Matrix that can open has worked.

I've noticed that line every single time I've watched it for the past 25 years. I just always assumed it was like a wire holding the crystal to the inside of the shell, unless it was levitating or something.

I don't think it's a reference line. As it seems to be there consistently from different angles. If you look at shots when you can see the inside side of the matrix casing, it looks like a cylinder and a small wire or tube coming out of it. if i were to hazard a guess, I think its supposed to be a small telescoping rod.

I researched this heavily when planning for the build of my Matrix replica, IMO that line is supposed to be there.

Wow...that's weird. And the line don't jitters so it can't be a path of action for the animators....maybe....the matrix as a thin rod going through it hold the glowy bit?

I'm not surprised, the middle bit has to held in by string or it would fall out and roll behind a futuristic computer. And then the big motivational bit would be ruined by Prime having to get help to shift the machine to pick it up.

The Matrix is actually just one of those toys where two people hold a handle each at opposite ends of a room and shoot the ball back and forth along the string to each other.

    Maybe.

I always thought that the "fishing line" was intentional since it was the only thing suspending the core of the Matrix of Leadership in mid-air like that. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if it weren't there?

Same here. I always considered it a 'reference line' and nothing more.
