First of all I am thanking CM for posting pics of his MP Voltron on an earlier post that made up my mind on getting Voltron. He really is a true work of art which puts this guy back in the limelight. Truly a Great Figure.
I never did see the original Voltron show, only that one that was all in CG. Didn't like it that much but that does look like a sweet toy.
Congrats to those who got him, but I'm not having any difficulty resisting. When compared side by side to the original, it doesn't look different enough to say 'wow, it's a must-have'. A few extra joints here and there does not a "Masterpiece" make, for me anyway. This whole figure just feels rushed. Consider the difference between G1 Prime and Masterpiece Prime - holy smokes! It's an entirely different level of engineering. For the Voltron release to get my $$, there needed to be a LOT more work done here, particularly paint detailing and molding on the lions. The only ones I had as a kid were the green and yellow - and frankly, these look exactly like them.
woah, is it me or do the heads look a bit big? I've got the voltron that came out about 5 years ago, when the cg show was on, and I think that has better proportions than this one. not to say bad things about this one, as there are obviously people that like it. just an opinion.
Thanks for the pics! But after seeing them I think the original is far superior, even the reissue from the late 90's I would buy over this. The lion modes are horrible (they look like head bobbers) and the robot head looks weird. Plus I heard the quality of the plastic is very low.
woah! no kidding, thats really poor from Toynami Other than proportions, i hoped the lions could have some more articulation on the limbs... and well, those heads are just too big
Well, they're shiny, and the arm lions have decent tails. That's about the only thing offhand I can think of that puts it over the plastic lions I got during the CG Voltron run. Hell, the original die-cast Matchbox lions stack up well against this ... which means it ain't really a Masterpiece. -XCN-
They should have made it so that the two halves of the arm lions could fold in to hid the elbow joint. Looks nice, and nice to see the Black lion doesn't look like the husky kid in school. But I got the Trendmaster TRU Diecast rerelease in the 90's some time, and I like that one better.
