Thanks for all of the encouraging words guys! I always wanted to make a Skyfire, but it wasn't until the second version of the MP seeker mold came out that I thought there was a good enough base figure for it. Someone asked: The resin head was purchased from ebay ~8 months ago. I haven't successfully retrieved the name of the seller, yet. Thanks, I normally do the ink/wash and dry brushing to detail/shade/weather. I did not think that would turnout very well given the extreme white on this one. I also wanted to do something to distinguish it from the other great Skyfire/Jetfire customs that have been posted. I gave the cartoon shading a metallic twist though. I'll probably do the cartoon shading a bit differently next time I give it a go. The contest results have been posted here. Thanks, I agree the head is a bit big. I was thrilled though to get it to fit over the classics head like a helmet instead of swapping the heads. Thanks, I think the clean look is best for white figures. That's the main reason I opted for the cartoon shading and the panel lining instead of my usual methods.
At the risk of coming off as tactless, you probably should've won. I mean no disrespect to the 1st or 2nd Place winners. I just think your piece warranted a better result.
3rd place??? I really don't understand the judging at botcon. This is 1st place work here my friend. I'm just sorry I didn't get to see it up close. Spent most of my days making sure no one walked Off with figures at my buddies booth.
You've got to be effing kidding me! Two Alt-ish looking customs that Superquad7 could have probably pulled off in his ~sleep~ with about 1% of the paint quality of your Jetfire, and a Wal-Mart-quality Halloween mask place above this? ROBBED is right! - Alty
WOW! just WOW! HasTak should take notes from your build should they want to reimagine Skyfire in MP! Great work!
Even though I strongly feel that the OP should've won, there's no need to refer to the custom mask that way. I'd like to think that all Radicon participants are above this.
perhaps one of the most beautiful transformer customs I have ever seen, In my book this would have merited 1st place. Many congratulations
Sure. No offense, but the other two entries aren't even in the same league. I'm just at a loss for how this placed 3rd. - Alty
Dizzzam, I missed out on seeing this at the show, since it was on SUNDAY when I actually got a chance to look at the customs at Botcon, and wow, I honestly was surprised at the mask taking out first also! There was a bad ass blitzwing there also that was kit bashed masterly, and painted very well! Dark Saber was sick and deserving of 2nd indeed! But I honestly feel this was meant for 1st place, wow glad I finally got to see some pix of it!! Amazing custom bro! Hats off!! and best of luck in future comps~!
I agree. And on top of that, I have to admit some confusion on my part while viewing the gallery. I thought the mask scored 1st Place in another category altogether. Like, I thought there was one for costumes/props. Regardless of the placing, it doesn't take away from how awesome this Jetfire is.
Bashed vs scratch though? Scratch involves more work. The parts were bashed so well I couldn't tell what he used. They look perfectly assembled together. I don't like the panel lining on anything but that's just me. Still a perfect looking jetfire to me.tu Costumes should be in another category altogether unless maybe if it transforms. Does someone have better pics of second place?
