I really want another masterpiece figure but is Optimus better than Grimlock or is Grimlock better?

    Also which one is better.

Prime definitely feels more substantial....... but the alt mode is lacking.

Prime is classic, but Grimlock is a robot dinosaur...a robot dinosaur. You don't get more epic than that. It's the G1 figure on steroids, man. I would also say go for the Hasbro version cause you get what he's supposed to come with. Not some stupid only seen in one episode nonsense. The only reason I could tell you to get Prime first, is if you plan on buying the complete MP-04 version and/or you're a total Optimus fan. To me, though, Grimlock is King.

I've got both (admittedly, Hasbro) versions, and I must go with Prime. Masterpiece Prime is a revolution in Transformers engineering and detail. He looks amazing, comes with a whole bunch of accesories, and has all the articulation one could want. More importantly, he is sturdier (perhaps the sturdiest Masterpiece yet) than Masterpiece Grimlock.

Grimlock is good, but when I got him I felt he was more of a really good Leader Class toy than a revolutionary figure. Just my opinion.

Optimus is nicer in bot mode. Transformed him to vehicle mode once won't be doing that again. Grimlock is good in both modes plus his weapons can be held easier. I've found he can also stand better in certain poses as opposed to Prime. So my vote is for Grimlock.

Very good point. You won't find Prime cheap anywhere (unless you get lucky). Right now it's still possible to find Grimlock cheap. Hasbro and Takara version of Grimlock are probably more similar than any other MP so far.

Personally I like my Grimlock better than my Prime (and I have the Takara version). I think he's the better detailed of the two. But both are excellent. Get which ever character interests you more.

Although with all the releases of MP Prime, I suspect there are way more Prime toys floating around out there than Grimlock (I'm just guessing)- this might effect how expensive the toys are down the road on the second hand market- or it might not.

MP Prime ranked #1 in Toyfare's top 100 toys of the last 100 years (published in 2007, I believe).

Granted, MP Grimlock hadn't been released when that was published, but that's still saying a lot.

I couldn't say which of the two is better though -- they're both too awesome, both an absolute must-own for every TF collector.

Grimlock for sure. Optimus isn't bad but Grimlock is SO much better.

Get Prime. Even though I think Grimlock is the most accurate MP figure to date (when you look at alt mode and Robot Mode), Optimus seems a little more worth the money due to the size of it. Grimlock is roughly the size of most Leader class figures. In the end, I would base it on which character you have a greater attachment to.

Get both, some TRU still has have Grimlock for around $80 and you can get a Hasbro issue MP prime for less than $70 on Ebay, I got mine for $55.
