It was a pain the first time because I was paying much attention. Its so intuitive in going from bot to robot and I didnt pay attention to how parts were lined up particularly the arms and head now I have it worked out .

You mean from alt to bot? Yeah, very true, even the other way which is a pain in the ass is still intuitive, I'll give it that. Brilliant engineering.

I did the mod with an xacto blade carefully removing a tiny bit from each side. Basically you need to remove the thickness of the paint which is what messed up the tolerances that kept it from closing right.

I attempted the pressure application method but that did not work. Any touching of the left forearm caused the gap again. I used a thin sand stick to sand down the highlighted areas and this did the trick. Overall it is a good figure even though it doesn't have the premium heft, detailed look, and feel of MMC's Backdraft. The accessories are a nice touch. To answer someone's question, each helmet has its own set of swappable faces. Each helmet has a standard face but the rounded helmet gets the smiling face while the pointed forehead helmet gets the rage face. I don't think you can exchange the faces across helmets.

What about bad paint apps and replacement kits screams premium quality.

Mine didn't have such issues, hence premium quality.

I'm truly useless at these things, would anyone be kind enough to do a quick pic showing exactly where I'd have to trim down to allow the flap to close flush? Many kind thanks in advance.

Oh it's no 3D model, it's a gif made using photographs of an actual MP Inferno I have posted in this and other threads!

Sorry if that's not what you meant, I'm not the most technically-minded :)

Same here from the robot to truck. Took a bit but got the hang of it.

I just sanded only the top of the tab by half a millimeter and it closes now with no issue.

Ack, I should have posted my solution but somehow got interrupted and never did. :(  I saw that someone else had this issue a while back, so when I first got Inferno I took his head piece apart and removed the silver hose. The culprit was that the pin was poking out a little bit and would have scratched the paint. So I used a heavy-duty pin pushed to push the pin through just a little bit - HOWEVER, the pressure required was quite dangerous and I risked breaking the piece. I had to use a small bunched up towel underneath it to make sure I didn't accidentally apply pressure to the barrel and snap anything off.

I was actually able to get both sets of faces to work with both helmets. It's a tiny bit tight at first, but everything seems to fit.

The smiling face can work with both heads fairly easily, it's the screaming face that won't work with the rounded helmet. The pointed bits at the top keep the helmet from sliding on, you could probably force it, but you risk damaging the figure,

Got this guy for myself for Christmas and he's great - transformation feels good and both modes look cool.

Looking forward to Grapple even more. Got him on pre-order with Kapow. He'll also balance out all the red in my cabinet.

I'm not collecting the die-cast figures - if you're interested I'm selling mini Optimus on eBay now.

Did any of you in the USA with Inferno buy him from Amazon.jp? How did that process go and were their any extra import fees? Thinking of getting MP Grapple and MP Megatron from there because of the price (almost $60 cheaper per figure), but I haven't been able to see how the experience with Amazon Japan went?

Finally got this guy in hand. I have to say, this was so close to greatness for me that I'm genuinely annoyed. Would it really have been such a bad thing to get legs like those in this illustration from tfwiki? His upper body is not consistent with his lower body. Everything else about this figure is excellent! What a wasted opportunity. Hopefully the KO companies will combine the illustration's superior aesthetics with Takara's superior transformation engineering.
