Does anyone know why Masterpice Grimlock is so expensive?

Did he have a limited run when first on the market?

    What was his original price?

    Thx

I think he's just in demand, and with good reason. It is a great representation of him and works well with the classics line.

MP-08 Grimlock retailed for $150 I think. I don't know how much the TRU and MP-08X went for.

Its an amazing figure, I prefer the Takara one better, but they are both awesome. He can also fit in with your CHUG figures if you want.

It was $69.99 for the US version. Takara's Comic version was around $150 I think, maybe $200 as an import.

He's a popular character who fits into both MP and Classics collections.

    1. He is in demand
    2. He is out of production and only available on the secondary market.
    3. He is arguably the best Masterpiece to date.
    4. Many use him as Classics Grimlock as the classics figure is underwhelming at best.

I regret not buying a 2nd on at TRU when I had the chance. I recall seeing hundreds of them at a TRU nearby. I was sure they were going to go on clearance or be part of some holiday deal. They sold out almost immediately for 69.99 so I guess I made the wrong call! :lol

Original retail for japanese version was around 13-15000 yen, at the time in the USD 150 zone. US version was 59.99 or so.

US version was only released once, JPN version had about three releases total [first release and two re-issues] but each subsequent time currency rates put him at higher prices than the previous one.

And, he's in demand, because he's a very well made toy and a popular definitive rendition of a fan favourite character.

Business as usual at Hasbro, going from market over saturation (MP Sky) to an extremely limited release (MP Grim)
