With all this Masterpiece awesomeness happening, I'm about to go ahead and get Grimlock. Other than accessories and rounded off edges, are there any other differences between the US and Takara releases?

There are some extra paint applications for the Hasbro version that make it look more cartoon accurate (check out dino-mode legs), as opposed to Takara's simpler look

At this point, grab the cheaper one. As far as paint goes, the Hasbro version has some extra paint applications on his shoulder.

I think the Takara one has different accessories (Apron, Brain Controller, etc.) the Hasbro one has the crown accessory. I prefer the Hasbro one.

As far as I can see, there isn't really much difference in price between the two at the moment. Looking at some comparison pics and there really isn't much difference at all.

I know the Takara grimlock has sharper teeth and claws. The hasbro release dulled them down a little, not by much but a little.

They are pretty much the same. It all comes down to the accessories. I think the price on the both of them have somewhat leveled out but they TT one is worth a little more but not by much.

Might've been, I noticed someone tried to outbid me at the last minute, but I had already bid more than they did. XD

Yeah, I have the first batch that Takara released and the Hasbro version and other than the paint aps, I don't see much difference.

If anyone is keen in him go for the Hasbro version. Slightly affordable, better paint aps and they resolved the tail pin issue which was an issue on the first batch of Takara's Grimlock. This MP is really an understated gem.

It's the Hasbro version and I got it for 167. Not bad at all if I do say so myself.

Not bad at all, but I got one of the last ones in stores for $90 :D  Anyway, you won't regret your purchase one bit, and the differences are as follows:

-US Has extra red details on the arms and extra black paint aps on the crotch like the G1 toy (Not on Japanese for toon accuracy)

-The US has most of the chrome, but is replaced with gold paint on the dino claws (for durability), the tip of the tail is silver instead of chrome, and a yellowish gold paint behind the gold chrome chestplate

    -The accesseries:
-Takara features an apron, bowtie, and serving dish from Madman's paradise
-Takara has the brain transfer helmet from the episode where Grimlock got a brain and made Computron
-Hasbro has his great crown from the Marvel Comics story when Grimlock became king of the Autobots

    -Packaging (obviously)

-Hasbro has dulled teeth and claws

-Robot mode toes are gold instead of dark grey

That's all, in all honesty, they're both just as good. In fact, I might even go as far to say that the US version is a bit nicer.

P.S. Fun fact, there is a little port that you can open on the Dino back of Grimlock that's like an old Microman seat. It's real purpose is for the storage of his gun on his back. It's kind of a forgotten gimmick.

Ouch. I remember getting the Takara one from TRU in Japan the day it came out for about $80.
